Database feedback please

Hi Julian
I'll try to put my 80 projects/concerns in this list.
Only sensors and BE, HB, etc. seem a little misfit.
Maybe also a "sensors" and "engine watch area" categories.

Hi,
I have decided to try to take the day out to crack on with bits of the
site.
I am tweaking the database and would appreciate some feedback on the
categories to be used in the database.
All the info (suppliers, manufacturers, links, etc) on the site will be
categorised according to the following list, so I want to make sure
that the list provides enough detail, but isn't too specific to lead to
a really long list.
Here is the list so far:
Body and Styling
Camping Equipment
Driveline
Engine Performance
Expedition Planning
Front Bumpers
Gearboxes
General Electrical
Interior
Lighting
Navigation
Rear Bumpers + Tyre Carriers
Recovery Equipment
Roof Racks
Service Items
Snorkels
Suspension
Tanks - Fuel/Water
Underbody Protection
Wheels and Tyres
Winches
Do you think that there is anything missing or unnecesary?
At the moment the list is alphabetical, but on the site I will try to
group related items.
I also want/need to put together a good database of the various LC
model names, perhaps with a bit of background info like years of
manufacturer, markets, etc - anyone have any good info on this? Any
one willing to spend a bit of time putting a table together?

Sounds fine, and very comprehensive. I think you'll find that nature takes its course as you add new suppliers - presumeably adding new categories in the future will be easy. Here's another possible category given the "vegi diesel" discussions of the last two days: "Fuel conversions" (which could also include LPG of course).
There's quite a good summary on http://www.off-road.com/tlc/faq/product.html but unfortunately it doesn't include European spec ones.On the same site http://www.off-road.com/tlc/faq/engine.html is a good summary of engine specs
This guy clearly has time on his hands: http://drflash.chat.ru/files/toyfaq.txt and has collected a huge amount of information.
I would have thought links to these would beat rehashing the info into a new table - unless you are *seriously* bored.

Although it seems that to be truly carbon-neutral I'd have to hand sow my oil seed rape, use the horses to till the ground and harvest it, tread it myself to extract the oil .... hmmm, have to think about that one.

Julian,
Looks very detailed and will require for a lot of info to be entered in the
database if you plan the database to cover all variants of European
landcruisers.
As I can see the list could be divided into three basic categories OEM, mods
and auxilliary equipment. As for OEM it seems to follow the general
classification adopted in the service manuals, which is pretty neat.
I'd suggest one overall heading, perhaps for all OEM entries (where
applicable) - common problems and remedies.
General electrical sounds a bit vague to me. Does it cover everything except
lighting? That leaves a lot of stuff to be put in one slot. Perhaps
classification from the electrical manual would be more handy?

Hi Joaquim,
At this stage the list is for general grouping of info, but you have
prompted me to add a few more. Here is a revised list:
Body and Styling
Camping Equipment
Brakes (**added)
Cooling, Heating and Air Con (**added)
Driveline
Engine General (**added)
Engine Performance
Expedition Planning
Fuel and Exhaust systems (**added)
Fuel Alternatives (**added)
Front Bumpers
Gearboxes and Transfer Case (**changed)
General Electrical
Interior
Lighting
Navigation
Rear Bumpers + Tyre Carriers
Recovery Equipment
Roof Racks
Routine Maintenance (**changed)
Snorkels
Suspension and Steering (**changed)
Tanks - Fuel/Water
Underbody Protection
Wheels and Tyres
Winches
Once we get to the stage of building up the library you should be able
to drill down to a further level of detail below each of the above
categories.

Thanks, added.
Ideally I want a detailed list because often people don't know what model they have and also some of the info is going to specific to certain models.
The model listing will be used as a point of reference, but adding in the extra history and technical info would be a bonus.

Hi Roman,
On the manufacturer/supplier side of things I am not necessarily going to break
down by model - most suppliers stock/sell particular manufacturers' products
although there will be a facility to special the model range they deal with, e
.g. 40 series, 80 series, 90 series.
In the 'library' you should be able to say, select driveline and then select a
sub category of lockers and then find a list of articles and links to articles
on the subject covering everything from factory ones to 3rd party ones as well
as resolving problems etc.
At first I'll start with the existing categories and do sub categories as
sections fill up.
It should all make more sense once I get something up there for you to play
with.
Do you have a list of these? I have been cribbing from Haynes.
For the time being I would be inclined to possibly split it into:
Charging and Starting systems
Chassis Electrical Systems
3rd Party Electrical Systems
Thanks for the feedback, do keep it coming.

After messing around with it last night I think I am actually going to
split it into two sets of categories, one for categorising the type of
products available and then one for categorising the links and
articles.
I want to try to make the manufacturer/supplier database quite
sophisticated, whilst being relatively easy to use.
It will be a bit of a pig to populate, but once up should prove
invaluable.
I will provide forms so that visitors can add more companies to the
database and will try to get you guys and people on the other lists to
contribute as well, which hopefully should save me a bit of work.
Ultimately I will give manufacturers and suppliers the facilities so
that they can update their own info

Julian,
This seems like a very good start, you are right to try and keep it
shortish.
