just spotted this
http://i20.ebayimg.com/02/i/03/b8/07/c3_3.JPG
on ebay
the difflock looks like a turn dial (u can see it through the steering wheel gap)
can someone shed light on the functionality of this (not the difflock but the
button itself)
getting more of an understanding now u see
btw this was not on the dash on the import i saw on saturday.

Turn to first position - rear diff lock engaged - turn to second
position - rear and front diff locks engaged.
Low ratio engaged first.

aaaahhhh!!!!!
i am enlightened
how is the centre difflock engaged though?

Automatically via engagement of low ratio and at the same time ABS is
disabled.

sorry if this all is a bit boring to you lc owners out there but for someone who
currently has a bog standard discovery this is a new world!
and besides the fact getting my car to the lc standard would cost a grand or two
and im just talking difflocks!
:)

It is an electrical switch that activates the diff lock actuators on
the axles.
When engaged you will get flashing lights on the dash for Front, Rear
or both diff locks that will continue to flash until they actually
engage.
The locks only lock in one position per revolution so the wheels have
to spin independently up to one complete revolution before clicking in.
Once engaged the lights on the dash should remain permanently on.

Just to add: try and get them engaged *before* you start giving it a lot
of right foot action, same applies for centre diff lock if you have the
CDL switch. If they engage when things are spinning fast it will put a
lot of strain on the diff I think.
Best regards,
Jon.

yeh i was thinking that
besides
when i know i "might" be going into soft stuff then i engage as a precaution as
i rather use that than start spinning and causing a mess (especially during laning)

Not in the least boring I can tell you, we have all been where you are now,
its a great place to be so exciting watching every 80 on the road, looking
up the papers and mags, chasing up leads. Well you can take it for granted
that we all wish you the best and if we can we will help. I will say the
only problem may be that you want the answers now or even yesterday and
unless some one is at their pc it may take a while. I know it seems like for
ever but its not. It took me years to get my cruiser and that was after
about 8 to 10 years of drooling when I say one but knew I could not even
think of affording one here. You have it easy over there believe me there is
much fewer of them here and they cost more to buy and to run. I know I have
said this before but the road tax alone here is 1370 euro for the year
compared to about 230 euro in the UK. Good hunting and keep your wits about
you at all times.

to be honest ive been secretly admiring them ever since i went to dubai in 2001
and went in one over the dunes.. effortlessly too.
although it broke down cos the guy couldnt get any drive in it, and said there
wasnt enough pressure or something?
being very new to this i took his word but hadnt a clue what he was on about.
one thing i have noticed
you dont see many 80's about.
plenty of colorados and the occasional amazon but not many 80's
but when i do see one i do crane my neck to have a better look, albeit at the
detriment to road safety ;)
