DIN socket

RE: [ELCO] DIN socketHi Guys
I have already tried these whiter than white and blue bulbs a few times and they dont do it for me at all, .They even appeared to be less bright than the yellow light most of us seem in headlights.

SNIP Incidentally I also tried the PIAA solution "our 60 watt bulbs give output equivalent to 130 watts" (at vast expense) a while back. Yes, they are whiter, but the effective light output is no better. So if anyone out there is tempted by that approach don't bother - it doesn't work.

Hi John,
If it's too expensive, you could always make up your own or get one
made up for you, just follow the link I sent earlier, you will find
full instructions on how to do it.

I said I wouldn't quote prices over the forum, this time only, please ring
or email direct for prices, I don't want to offend anyone or get into a
price war.
Piranha superloom ?130 + vat
Piranha 160/100 bulbs ?20 each + vat
less 5% for ELCO members on this one.
We have previously used IPF looms but they are slightly more expensive.
check out www.piranhaoffroad.co.au
We have just brought in 3 air freight orders with a sea freight coming in
December. We have management systems, monitors, solar panels, smart regs,
power showers, 12v showers, superlooms, bulbs and turbo timers.

Hi John,
Yours is the same as mine - the outer lights are dip/main beam and the
inner ones are purely main beam, just like the aus models.
With Jap imports the inner set of lights is often used for fog lights.

Hi Eddie,
The site is actually at:
http://www.piranhaoffroad.com.au/products/Lights/LightCentre.htm
The loom looks exactly like the Slee Off Road upgrade harness and also
what is illustrated in the LCool website at:
http://www.safari4x4.com.au/80scool/tech/lights/80wiring.html
At the end of the day it is only a loom that is using relays to take
the power for the headlights directly from the batteries via properly
rated wiring, the sort of thing you can put together cheaply enough
yourself.
Eddie, this is pretty basic stuff so I'm surprised that you guys aren't
making these up yourself for a fraction of the price.

Agreed, the loom design will be common as they all have to do the same job,
some people will be able to make their own, however commercially it is not
viable, we have historically sold 1 per month so it is not worth tooling up.
If anyone wants to make me some that will be univeral and suit all makes and
models of 4x4 I would be interested.
The Piranha loom is significantly more expensive than slee off road and
thats before air freight costs and duty.

Hi Christopher
I sent the guy on ebay an e-mail regarding the max on the box/booster which
says 130watts. He (THINKS) its the max per bulb now I did say he thinks or
assumes. Great when you get sych positive , definate info regarding stuff a
person is selling.

We've been having ISP / Outlook exchange server problems, so my email
has been a disaster area since Monday, but now - hopefully - sorted out.
(If you think Toyota are difficult try Microsoft! For the technically
minded we've had to turn down the MTU value of the network card to get
my machine to talk to the server. Why? Who knows!)
Anyway, hopefully you've got my reply to your personal email giving my
address, but if you haven't let me know. And:
- Yes, by all means get it sent to me.
- I will undertake to get it to work, and add any wiring that may be
needed.
- I'll then send it to you.
We can worry about cost later. I'm curious to see it anyway as a
possible solution to myself, so you will be doing me a favour.
Regarding wattage: having searched online for similar units they all
seem to be restricted to 130 watts or so, which makes sense since that
would be 2x the normal (legal limit) 60w main beams plus a small margin.
If it works as advertised this shouldn't be an issue since the extra
light you get from the standard 60w/55w bulb will be more than adequate.
Assuming this all comes about I'll report back to the forum what
happens.

Loss of RUPPs and National Parks

So how is the proposed loss of RUPPs and National Park Byways going to
impact folk?
Ian.

Hi christopher
Its on its way licked the envelope myself. Na only messing some courier will
deliver it to you. I dont know if like you said you got all the e-mails. I
contacted the guy because the bulbs he is giving with the unit are
80/75watts x 2 = 160 watts. Yet the unit only says 130 watts. Would it be
130extra watts on top of what you already have cause if as some of us are
doing, running 2x 100 watts well thats 200 watts well above what this unit
is for.
Maybe it boosts the power by an extra 130 watts, hense its called a booster
unit.
Also the bulbs that are with this thing are supossed to be heat resistant
which may help.
I know im clutching at straws but what the hell its all I have. Have fun.
