What's the air con like in your 120?

Had mine regassed twice in as many years. Gave up this year, so it's a case of all windows open and sweat in this heat!

Both times it was regassed they said the system was fine, all pressure tested on the special machine. The first time it was done the guy said they had to fiddle with compressor to get it to turn on?! The second time it was just regassed and it worked for I while. I left the AC on all winter as the guy said it helps keep it lubricated, still didn't work come the summer.

I'm guessing it's because it's run out of gas that it doesn't work. Flick the AC switch and the light comes on but no rev increase and no compressor movement.

Anything I can check for myself without specialist kit?

Hi

I have to say mine if. It does get a bit noisy with the hotter weather.

In answer to the first Q on the 120 I've just bought it works perfectly. that said I couldn't get it to work when I viewed it and used the fact to lever it down a bit.
Its strange that it looses it slowly but the Black Collie lost its gas over a 2 year period. Nothing is impossible to fix though and I guess its finding the right guy/firm.
I wouldn't be without it these days now.TBF.

Hi if you have ac for the rear vents the Lc5 or late invincible models you have to use it in the rear as well at least once a week for 5 - 10 minutes to stop the seals drying out and strinking allowing gas to escape , you can buy your own gas refill with gauge from halfords or similar place .

Mines an LC4 so no rear vents.

Might have a go at chasing the pipe work to see if anything obvious.

In my lc5 the Aircon is perfect. Been using it extensively these last few days as I do the hospital runs into inner city London. So much traffic, so hot outside, a nice 19 Deg inside.

Suspect putting in tints will help too.

Have had the truck ... 5 years, haven't done anything to gas or anything Aircon related.

Mine is spot on. Being climate control it is never turned off.

This guy is a mate of mine. you can contact him with Questions, don't know where your based. but you can always contact him for advise....SUB ZERO .. www.subzero.co.uk 07843 936155 hes on face book as subzero automotive his name is Ian smith.. probably the best there is ...Hope this helps

Hi
With Air con they say you have to use it (put it on at least ) once a week regardless of if its hot or cold as if you don't the "o" rings dry out and leak, bit late now as it is leaking gas but you did not mention when it was gassed
did they put a die in ?

A friend had the same problem as you but did not have the die in and on the third time they put some in and after about a week he noticed the colouring at the condenser so replace that and has been fine since.
and the compressor will not cut in if there is not enough gas in the system.

As above but the main culprit is usually the compressor shaft seal. Pressure tests are only good for big leaks you need to charge the system with dry nitrogen and a tiny puff of refrigerant and go round with a leak detector. Dye also doesn’t always find tiny leaks as a liquid is always a larger molecule than refrigerant especially 134A which is now stupidly expensive.
Rear AC pipework can be prone to corrosion and leaking but as you say yours doesn’t have it it won’t be there. :)

Good luck with it.

On my 120, the second aircon setup has a long pipe from the front all the way to the rear driver side qtr. Does the lc4 also have that? Maybe its leaking ?

Many thanks for this. Unfortunately I'm near Brighton in Sussex, bit far to go. Might give him a ring for advice though.

Since having it regassed last summer I kept the AC on all the time through the winter, but come summer time it's blowing hot air.

I'll be honest I've no idea about the dye. Last time it was done at ATS I hung around and watched them do it. Took about an 1 or so. Hooked up to one of those special machines. Vacuumed tested to check for leaks and regassed. Dye was never mentioned. I thought the idea of the vacuum test was to check for leaks?

Can't see that pipe you mention, I'm guessing that's for the rear air con in the LC5?

Interesting, thanks. They most definitely didn't go round with a leak detector. Just hooked it up and pressed some buttons on the machine, that was it.

Looks like I need to find a good local AC guy!

Ah could be. I just assumed the aircon was the same in all the 120s. This is for the rear unit that supplies the 2nd row and 3rd row seats with the hot/cold air.

A good local AC guy is exactly who you need. :)

I can in West Sussex but I guess that’s a bit far? (Bognor)
