Dover Customs

I know some of you get out into Europe. So can anyone tell me the current
attitude of Customs at Dover towards those of us travelling from outside
the EC into UK with a lot of gear on board. Or even, do the new EC member
states that now hold the borders to the outside world follow a strong line
in enforcing EC Customs rules ?
Cheers

Jon,
During the 18 years I've been going in and out I've never been stopped
by the customs to display the goods I had on board. I guess you would
have to be really unlucky to draw their attention unless you manage to
make them curious during the ferry crossing. They seem to be more
focused on making a stance against the terror threat than chaisng
one-timers.

Just to second what Roman said, you would have to be the unluckiest man
alive. Only had a problem once when my son's passport had expired, I hadn't
noticed but the French immigration let us through with a smile...

Hi Guys
Hey Jon I cant really help its been a while since I went through Dover. But
when I did on a landbridge crossing to france all the cars were going
through and then all of a sudden i was waved in to a little area. We all had
to get out of the car even my son with his bag of sick cause he gets travel
sick sometimes. They searched in the car under the car in the boot and in
the engine compartment,. I think the Irish Reg had them spooked anyway part
of the trip.. Another time when we were in Andora which as you all know is a
duty free country we were coming around a corner and thwere was about 40
french police checking every car including ours. So Jon when you going back
to the UK to your cruiser on the water .

I've done Dover dozens of times, it used to be part of my travel with
my job. I was only stopped twice, for random checks. The normal
attitude is very casual. I have even been through in the night and not
been able to find customs officers.
Regards, Clive.
