Roman is right. We have them on Pajero's too. It is the accepted wisdom
amongst owners to disable it completely, and there is a steel blanking disc
available for the purpose.
Some do it as soon as they get their new Jap import, others (like me) wait
till it goes wrong and then kill it off.
It appears that Ford are one manufacturer who got it right and EGR has been
a success on the 2.5 Transit engine - if you can stand the rattle !
