(ELCO) (CHAT - spares from South Africa) (FJ40)

Hi out there,
My FJ40 currently has no power steering. I am trying to see where might be
the cheapest place to buy spares globally, I have a rough price from All
American in Holland, UK Toyota prices made me laugh out loud.
South Africa comes to mind for what currently seem obvious reasons. RHD
vehicles are prevalent, it should be cheap, I have relations dotted around
the country and friends over there for the next month.
Does anyone have contacts for spares for my model or similar in South
Africa.
At the very least I want a RHD power steering box, I actually want as much
as possible to put the whole thing together, steering box being first on the
list of essentials.
Email me direct if you choose, as I'm the only FJ40-er, sob.

Hi Steve,
I don't have any contacts at the moment, but will ask on other lists
for you.

Steve,
Initial suggestions are that they didn't have power steering on the 40s
in SA, but suggestions of the kit from a 70 series might fit.
I'll try some more digging - probably get more info from the yanks when
they wake up.

Thanks, I've got a few locals looking into it too, I'll let you know what
comes back from my investigations.
I seem to remember other members have knowledge of things African, is there
no response because I put FJ40 in the subject line?

When I was in Cape Town early last year, I tried to source spares for my
HJ60. We visited a few breaker yards, but Landrover spares were predominant
in the Western Cape area. There were (are) very little broken Toyotas in the
Cape. However, I do recall some breaker yards in the Transvaal area having
Toyota's to break for spares. We found a rear small triangle window for my
friend's HJ60, which would've cost him R900! And this was one of the
"cheaper" yards. We used perspex in the end.
My thought is to try www.breakeryard.com if you haven't already. Or ebay -
there's currently a 80 to be sold for spares.
Sorry I can't be more helpful.
