[ELCO Digest] Newbie - Offroading with na automatic

Hi,
Last Sunday I've bought a 94 HDJ 80. It's not my first 4X4 but it is my
first automatic.
Today me and my budies went for a litle offroading but I'm not sure if
i'm using the gears correctly. It seems that most of the time I use only
D, 2 and L in (H in the transfer box), and only use L (in the transfer
box) when going through great slopes. I wonder if i'm using the box
correctly and not straining the engine and gear box???
I was used to offroad mainly in low gear in my previous manuals...
Thanks and regards,

Nuno,
With a powerful engine like 1HDT you almost feel no need to change
from high to low. But if you keep driving for a long time at full
power, e.g on soft sand, your gearbox will get too hot. Changing to
low range will spread the load more equally between the geabox and
transfer box.
