Hi, has anyone every changed the electric aerial on the HDJ80 series, if
so how the hell do you get to it without removing half the front of the
car ??
Thanks

By removing the two relays inside the wing cavity and developing
manual dexterity of a gibbon monkey :)

Or alternatively undo the large chrome nut on top of the wing, draw out
the old telescopic shaft - if still there - and bung in a new one as
supplied by your friendly Toyota dealer. If you are as clumsy as me
tape up the wing underneath and pad with an old towel before you start.
I used a mole wrench with bits of bicycle inner tube over the teeth to
un/rescrew the nut.
In my case the toothed winding thingy (technical term) was missing, so I
have a fully manual aerial. I fitted a grommet at the top to stop it
disappearing down the hole, and I pull it up and down. So far this
biomechanically activated retraction method (aka BARMy) has proved
surprisingly reliable.
If you still have the toothed thingy, and your aerial makes noises when
you push the buttons on the dash, all you have to do is connect it up
(bolt on the bottom of the shaft) to be fully restored ... until the
next time you drive under a low branch.
Or, as Roman says, you can find someone with an extra joint on both
forearms and very small hands...
