I am looking for an electric fan to replace the belt drive viscous unit and
noticed this information which relates to the cooling pump on the BMW M5
(straight 6 engine?). After the talk of fuel consumption I thought reducing
consumption by 0.5 litres per 100km good, over 10000 miles that is 80
litres, one fill less a year for the poor M5 driver!.
Of course the article cites 200W as opposed to 2000W in the conventional set
up, wonder if they considered the losses in the belt drive and charging
alternator which produce the electrical power.
I like the idea of loosing the pump drive belt, electric fan, electric pump
=96 wonder how much the pump is..... not a good idea perhaps for overland
travel but I don=92t plan to do that in this vehicle. Anyone know of other
biggish engines that use electric pumps only for circulation of coolant?
(Not the little run on supplementary pumps used in VW / Audi etc)
