Electric powered Hydraulic Pumps for MileMarker winches

A friend of mine works for a Swindon based company that manufactures
electric and belt powered hydraulic pumps for things like power
steering, lifts, etc.
I know this is something that some of you have looked into for powering
a MileMarker winch - do any of you have the optimum specs for such a
pump so that I can find out if they make one?
I guess ideally I need to know the required PSI and flow rate that the
winch requires for optimum use.
I also assume that users would prefer to opt for a 12volt pump as
opposed to a 24volt one.
Let me know what you think and who would be interested in one.

Julian, if the provision exists for a 24 volt power source , discussed
here very recently, I would go for this as the current draw is halved.
With regard to flow rate / pressure rise under load, could Alfred Murray
provide the figures, or indeed Milemarker USA ? I had a brief look for
the Smiths 12v pump I have but could not find anything.

to. Can't see an electric pump being a viable way of getting the power
you're after for a winch though.
Sort of related - I've just ordered an Alfred Murray Ltd "Type R" for
mine which uses a toothed belt to overcome drive problems. If any one is
interested my OX PS powered winch will be for sale soon - slow but ultra
reliable.

You can already buy a winch powered like this, sold as 'cut snake
winches' in, you guessed, Australia.
I am up for a 12v pump as the chance of the electrics going wrong
and frying the rest of the cruiser with 24v is not what I am after.
This is also what the aformentioned use.
It would not be a good idea for lots of us to call for the spec.

I have a connection that may be able to get Milemarkers from
abroad at a better price than we can get them. I will keep you posted
on that.

using what I had around me - i.e. the Ratcliffe tail lift 12v pump I
showed you. If it was fast enough, stick with it. If not - get something
bigger. BTW a few weeks ago on EBAY there was a complte winch (ramsay ?]
pump , looked just like my unit and a 110 winch bumper. So the Ratcliffe
may be OK. With regard to Clive's post I agree that using 24v is fraught
with potential problems. It is only something I would do if I was
confident of the circuit design / built in safeguards. Something we
should have done on the weekend - and might try in future - is to
extract a cruiser using Roman's ZF steering pump powered winch. That
would provide a good benchmark to see how fast / slow they really are.
I'm sure we can try this next time. Hopefully by then I should have my
sliders and F/R bumpers.

I hadn't seem those before but looking at their web pages I noticed that
only the baby one seems to be electric, although an electric power pack
is mentioned as an option for the big one they don't provide any
figures.

Hi all,
There's still an option for setting up a hydraulic pump to run from
the PTO. No messing with sliding belts/pulleys, gearing can be
adjusted to match the pump's flow rate, etc... A nice project for a
true enthusiast!
