|obsolescence!
Apparently both blowing together, or one v. shortly after the other, is not uncommon. Presumeably due to some sort of current surge from the death of #1 triggering failure of nearly dead #2; or maybe the increase in voltage available from only having to run the remaining one fries it.
I'd still like some HID lights, despite all the dire warnings against them ...
