Hi,

Just a quick note to say sorry if you have had any bounced email
messages from me, I have just been switching over some accounts to bet
my new PDA phone to work and might have inadvertently flushed a number
of recent emails through my spam filter.

Normal service should now resume.

Cheers,

Julian

Hi Julian,
Hadn=B9t noticed any, but my server is being a bit slow at the moment, thanks
though.
Finally bought some wings and weather-strips via SOR...so the bodywork
begins!

Thanks Steve, I'm glad of that.
I've just upgraded to the top of the range PDA phone thingies after killing my last one. It's a bit like one of the old Psion 3as, but running a version of windows and a stack faster with a 2Gb data card, 3g and wireless!! Very much a Boys Toy, but I feel I deserve it ;-)
Now I can do mobile calls, email, web browsing, satnav, skype, voip, contact management, etc all on one device.
Am slowly getting to grips with it, just need to sort out the Blackberry style push email and then satnav and I should be sorted.
Cheers,
Julian

What device do you have Julian? I've been waiting ages for the SE P990i and
it still hasn't materialised so I may need to choose something else.
What do you recommend?

No funny emails here either. Re the new toy: does it make coffee?

Hi Peter,
I got the Orange SPV M5000/HTC Universal/O2 XDA Pro - it's kown by
several names.
It is bigger and heavier than your average phone, but does everything.
My SE P900 was dropped one too many times resulting in screen cracks -
so a decent case and screen protector is high on the shopping list.
Also, I wasn't a fan of the Symbian system and the fact that you had to
buy (very buggy) 3rd party apps to open Word and Excel attachements in
emails. The windows Mobile platform has all the tools for Word, Excel,
PDF and Zip attachements built in.
One of my key requisites was Wireless access and also 3g and there
isn't much out there in the market that does that - most of the 3g
phones are geared up to consumer requirements like video calls, MMS,
etc, the business offerings aren't that common.
I had wanted the phone for a while, but Orange were insisting that I
had to pay ?200-300 for the upgrade, then I got through to a nice girl
who put me through to the Retension department who offered it to free.
The bummer was that they went out of stock and then have dropped the
range with no immediate replacement. So I bought mine on ebay and have
ordered the latest sexy/expensive phone from Orange which I will sell
on ebay as soon as it arrives - at the moment it looks like I should
come out on top!!!
I've looked at a few so if you want to know more, give me a call.

Hi Roman,
I could do mobile call, satnav, voip/skype, browsing, contact
management all at once if required, yes.

Julian, my wife says only women can multitask.
I suppose you mean the applications can be in use, not that you can look at
or listen the satnav, talk on mobile and skype calls while finding a phone
number. EVEN a women can't do all the above concurrently, although they can
probably add using the video camera to apply makeup to most of them.

What satnav package do you use?
Where did you get the 2GB SD card and how much?
I've just bought myself the XDA Exec PDA smartphone (Windows Mobile V5) and
wondering what to do with it now.

Hi guys,
What is wrong with Symbian? Is Win Mobile any more stable, functional,
connectable?
I have a Nokia 6600 which does all the things I require but it's .a
bit old now. When it breaks down, should I get another Symbian phone
or go for WinM? Is the choice of apps any better for the WinM
platform?

Hi Peter,
I got the 2gb Ultra II card on ebay for =A328 and pandp - there are a lot of auctions for them from Hong Kong - just make sure you get a named brand - I got a Sandisk one.
On the satnav side I'm going down the TomTom route although Memory Map has a module that should work on it and also Autoroute has one as well.
Cheers, Julian.

I had a P900 before that ran a version of the Symbian software. I personally prefer the Windows Mobile route because it has Word, EXCEL and a few other useful apps and utilities as standard.
At the end of the day it is down to personal choice - if you get the chance have a play of both.
Cheer,
Julian

Thanks Julian
I just won a Sandisk Ultra II 2Gb card (UK Seller) for =A325 including p&p.
Very happy so far with the XDA Exec especially as it was free with my new O2
contract. Just have to get my Orange number ported now.
I discovered that the XDA is not network locked, my O2 and my Orange SIM
work fine with it without having to unlock!
On the Satnav, I emailed MM but they haven't returned my message yet. Do you
have any info on the MM PDA software?
Thanks
Pete
