Engine cut out

Hi,
I have just had my engine cut out and cannot get it started, I
need some info./help.
1HD FT engine, auto box, towing a caravan. 60 MPH and suddenly
the engine lacked any power, I thought of switching to 2nd but the
lights on the dash were on as pre ignition so I pulled off the road.
Engine will not start now, it turns over fine. The A/C drive belt was
broken but I believe this to be coincidental.
I have checked the fuel cut off solenoid (on the pump) and it
seems to be OK. I have also tried re-setting the ECU with the fuses
out., and the batteries off. All fuses are sound. Fuel pump is not
delivering fuel. Is there any other solenoid for the fuel supply? I
cannot believe that the pump has failed so suddenly at 110,000 miles.
Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
Regards, Clive Marks.

Sounds electrical to me too. Have you got an immobiliser fitted? Maybe its
wir4ed to one of the solenoids mentioned ie the solenoid for the fuel pump..
About all I can offer..
Hope you get going soon

Jeremy,
I was talking about the injector pump earlier, I have started to
suspect the fuel pump proper. I will let you know. Thanks for the
help.

As an addition to this, as I was towing, is there any cutout on the
auto box that would stop the engine?, if so how to reset. I tried the
tranny tunnel and did not think that the box was hotter than normal
but I am open to any ideas. Thanks.

Doesn't sound like;y to me but not speaking from a position of auto box
knowledge even tho mine is an auto. Can only imagine that they might have an
overload cutout in place but as the car is big and strong would have thought
it should be able to tow most tyhings without cut out...
More likely to be something infuriatingly simple

Hi Clive
I had the same thing happen to me in the fast lane of a motorway. The
cruiser suddenly died with out warning, lost all power etc.
Like yours it would turn over but not start.
I got the road side assistance out because I know shag all about breakdowns
and their causes.
Any way he disconected a fuel pipe I think from the pump, and ran it
directly or some thing like that.. The cruiser started and kept going but I
had to keep the revs up or it felt like it was going to cut out again.
The fuel pump was the problem and needed to be over hauled at I think about
120,000.
Sorry I cant help more and hope you get back on the road soon.

What Clive is eluding to is something that I recall seeing on the 80s
cool list - basically some odd relationship between brake lights and
some switch/cutout under the central console near the auto box shift
lever.
I can't remember the details but it was something along the lines of if
a break light bulb went (or it may have been a trailer light) it
tripped a switch that disabled the engine (possibly linked to the
immobiliser) - it sounds a bit of a tall story but I do recall someone
in the US having the problem not too long ago.

Actually ignore my theory - it relates to not being able to shift out
of park.

Thanks Julian,
I have narrowed it down to the send/injector pump, there is no
fuel at the injectors. Whether the pump is broken, restricted, or not
being driven is the next set of tests.
