Ahh well you see, wasn't quite like that. SWMBO 'borrowed' my phone and snuck a peek at some of my saved eBay searches, and I came home to find my daughters had got me a LED Lenser M14 torch, and SWMBO had got me a Garmin Montana 650 GPS. Feel very, very, spoiled

And hugely chuffed!!

Now to get out and use it all grrr

Pity you hadn't been checking out a 200 series then  Could've been worse though, as CP suggests...

Happy Birthday, hope its a good one and from the sounds of it you have been a lucky boy.

If you need a hand with the Montana just shout as i have been using mine for some time and even have some maps you might find usefull. UK topo and full europe

great bit of kit.

Thanks Warren! Off to get a microSD card at lunch and then to see if I can port my 2012 CityNavigator maps that I've been updating with an older Nuvi across to it, so I may shout!

Cheers

Make sure you back up the device fith a full copy and also install the latest software update, there is also a soft copy manual on the device. I keep an eye on this thread as its the best source of information and updates to the montana. They post links to the beta update as soon as its avail and also seem to have got the attention of Garmin who respond to problems very fast and are very helpful.

Connect the Montana to your computer, after a few seconds it should appear as a disk. If Windows asks what you want to do, choose the option to show folders and files. Create a backup folder on your computer, select all the files in the Montana window and either drag them to the backup folder or copy/paste them there.

ALSO: A quicker and easier backup method for the newbies; you can simply DRAG the Montana GPSr icon to another folder on your computer, and it will copy it completely. DO NOT disconnect your GPSr until the computer is finished.
