Fitting an intercooler - insurance cost

Folks
I'm still pondering fitting an intercooler, and as I was renewing my insurance today (=A3343:00 from NU Direct, fully comp, SDP & business usage, protected no claims) I thought I'd ask how it would affect the insurance, as clearly it is a significant modification.
After a long pause to "consult with my supervisor" the chap asked "will it affect the exhaust at all?"
(me) "Huh??"
So I explained what it is (and got the telephonic equivalent of blank stare), and that there is no catalyst, so they said "ok, an extra =A337 per year".
Just thought you might like to know.

Hi Christopher
Was that ?37 a guess ,O we better charge him something for that thingy thing
he is talking about and we haven't got a breeze. Ok said one to the other
lets look professional here, look at thought you know what he is talking
about, ill pretent to phone someone but sure there is no one who would have
a clue what did he say it was a cooler, its probably for his beer to keep
cool. Ok thats our plan now quick make up a price and add it on some where
on the bill.

I really don't know if it was:
+ a guess
+ a sort of "composite price for general engine mods"
+ a finely honed figure (accurate to the nearest penny)
And nor do I care particularly! However I was expecting a figure between =A30 and =A3100, so it sounds reasonable to me. (And my guess is that it was option #2 above.)
The point is that under UK law you are required to notify your insurer of any "material facts" that may affect their quote, and if you don't they are entitled to walk away from their liability. So long as you have told them, they quote a price & you pay it you are covered.
They *do* check for engine mods following a crash, especially in older cars where people may have fiddled around a bit. (I believe the "oops, I didn't know that was a V8 engine in my Landrover" is a particularly common predicament ....)

Clearly, he had no idea... nothing new in that....
Well it is certain that they'll find a way to stick on about ?100 or so
more a year on my insurance, I bet
