Fuel Consumption on petrol 80 with LPG

Morning All,
A friend has just picked up a '95 petrol 80 with a Autronic multi point LPG system for 200 GBP with a suspect blown head gasket, but it turns out it was the rear heater pipe rusted through! Lucky Sod!
Anyway, we are wondering what the running costs likely to be?
Peter/Lal any ideas - essentially looking for and equivalent MPG figure.

I get 12 - 15 mpg on petrol, approx 10 - 12 on lpg although it's very
difficult to work out an accurate lpg mileage figure. Mine is single point
LPG so may not be similar mpg.
Other running costs will be broadly similar to a diesel I would have
thought.
BTW - if you work out an easy way to change the spark plugs please let me
know?
Pete

Hi Pete,
I am still surprised that you get such low consumption, I was sure that I had read on the Mud forums that people were getting 15-17mpg - although I guess they do measure things differently over there :)

Isn't a US gallon bigger than a UK gallon?

I think many of the MUD posters who use LPG are in Australia so buy in
litres like us, perhaps converted to MPG but as you say whos gallon.
Just being doing some vibration calcs, the US work in cycles per minute and
inches (or mils 0.001 inches) per second, now that is messed up thinking,
least they got all the inches to be the same before everything got really
out of hand..

That's fairly recent! The US inch was defined to be exactly 25.4mm only
in 1958, prior to that it was around 25.38mm in some publications.

I know - it's like driving on the RHS/LHS past a certain point change isn't
possible, these days the US would just use what they felt like and not
change!

I've not run LPG 4 quite some time as the price difference isn't enough (not got as cheap as a "supplier" as I had in the UK :)
The Yanks complain its high but what do they know. Its currently $2.75/US gallon here (Colorado) - around $70 2 fill my 25 (gallon) empty tank - so normally around $50 a fill.
I'm averaging 14mpg (again US) on my 96 FZJ80 with 161K but recently having plenty of truck issues (bad idle, lack power, popping CEL codes) so can't give u an exact summary. Max I've gotten was 21mpg (but a lot of that was downhill and cruising (N) and worst was 8.1 mpg (was all 4x4ing in snow, 3 hrs and round-trip of 4 miles! :)
Get around 16-17mpg on long journeys (nearly always heavy loaded) with front free hubs and front prop shaft out. Running 265/BFG/AT's, no winch or heavy front//rear bar.
That was all petrol and US Gallon.
On LPG I would get less- probably 10-12mpg (UK) and little less power (maybe 10%). I think when I factored in "price" I was getting around 25-30mpg (normal forecourt price) and 40-50mpg on my 'special delivery'! I have the exact figures somewhere but would have 2 go check my LPG/UK notebook
I've a 100L tank slung underneath with rear swing out tyre carrier. Running StarGas LPG system and direct injection 2 throttle body (not the fancy injector system that gives more power). Running a UniChip would give more power/mpg or tuning the car when running on LPG most of time (whereas mine is tuned 4 petrol and so-so on LPG)

PS - they still have the survey inch / foot / mile and the international
inch / foot / mile.
