Fuel Tank Breather

Just poking around my LC to try to check the fuel tank breather - has
anyone done this?
I have found a pipe than runs from the top of the tank backwards to a
cross member where it attaches to what looks like a valve or filter and
then runs a pipe into the actual cross member and then just stops
there.
Does that sound right?

Sounds right to me, except that in my cases it just ended without a
filter near the crossmember. Try blowing air in it and if you get
bubbles coming out of the thank you will be quite sure you'v e found
it.

Also, I wouldn't expect bubbles in the tank - surely it is a breather
from the top of the tank and therefore doesn't dip into the fuel?

Of course, you are right! (blush)... As an alternative, if you
pressurize the tank through this pipe, way you should be able to check
the difference after removing the filler cap.

80 is a hurtfull tale. =A31300 for a recon pump and timing belt
replacement, (while they had it off I asked them to do it.

For all practical reasons a recon IS a rebuild.
As for the price - a year ago I pad AAI for a recon ca 250 quid.
Word of warning: be careful with all injection pump specialist ! Not
many can tell the difference between Bosch and Denso injection pumps.
If they mix parts from both bins you'll be in a lot of grief! Been
there, done that ...

Yes it hurt. Done by a diesel specialist on the south coast. I phoned
Toyota to check on the price of a new pump, =A32000 to supply, =A33200 to
supply and fit. After this it seemed a bit better.
