Conversation: Oil leak, transfer box
Subject: [ELCO] Oil leak, transfer box
Hello all.
When I was lying under my car yesterday - as you do - (draining gear box oil
actually) I noticed a small oil leak that seems to be leaving a sticky patch
on the bottom of the tfer case. Julian, you may remember you noticed it when
I came over to see you last year...
Under the car, with my feet under the engine and my head at the rear of the
transfer box, the leak seems to be coming from what looks like the centre
diff actuator. There's a black plastic electrical connector that fits onto
what looks like a rotating switch that then disappears into the transfer
box. From my prone position looking at the back of the transfer box, its at
about 8 o'clock from memory. I just wanted to know if this was the diff
lock switch. If not, what is it...? It's not a serious leak but we're off to
France in just over a week and I can't really see any clear reference to
this in either Haynes of the Toy repair manual. I may go out and take a
picture of it and attach that too.
Thanks
