Ghost in the machine!

Some of you may recall that several months ago I posted about a problem with
my LC running rough / gutless on petrol but fine on LPG.
I tried all sorts to find the cause of this but without any success.
In brief it would start absolutely fine on petrol and would initially idle
and drive OK. After a minute or so the idle would start to cycle between
almost dying and over-revving (to about 1500 rpm). It would also at this
point be totally gutless on acceleration as though the accelerator pedal
wasn't connected to anything, however on kickdown (it's obviously an auto)
it would then pick up and rocket away. The rough idle bit eventually went
away but the gutlessness remained. Throughout this time it always ran AOK on
LPG.
Now, over the past couple of months I haven't used it much but this past
week I have and yesterday I thought, lets see what it's like on petrol - it
was absolutely fine! I drove it again this morning and again it was 100% OK
on petrol. So it seems that the problem has gone away (perhaps only
temporarily but we'll see). I've done absolutely nothing to effect a cure,
the problem simply went away.

Pete,
I had that happen twice on my 96 model in Scotland.
Never did figure it out but at one stage it was backfiring and lots of black
smoke. Methinks one of the injectors was clogged and maybe on of the
cylinders "turned off"
PS Not used LPG in over a year as petrol prices over here still 'cheap'
($2.80/US gallon)
