GPS flight use

It appears to be quiet this week (or alternatively my email is
bouncing back digests again), so an off topic question.
Since the new restrictions on flight carry-on baggage etc. Has anyone
taken a GPS on with them and used it by the window - as one
does? Its very entertaining when flying.
I flew to Bosnia in the autumn but did not take the GPS with me, but
I am flying again in a couple of weeks and thought I might take it
along for entertainment.
TLC content - I constantly use the GPS in the 80 and always use it
even on motorway trips in Europe plotting waypoints etc. Making for
interesting viewing when flying over the continent.

I flew to Sweden this month with laptop, cameras, batteries etc. Apart from
the extra security at airport transfers, there were no problems.
People had iPods, laptops etc in flight, so I don't see a GPS being a
problem.
One thing - try and get a belt without a metal buckle - I had to keep
taking mine off and it's a real pain when you're on three flights in one
day!

OK, sorry I was wrong, it wasn't quiet but just my email server broken again.

Thanks Neill, it was more avoiding the attention of flight
attendants, before they have always asked why I had 'that mobile
phone' by the window. And now I was worried about terrorist jitters
etc. - guiding in the missile or similar !
Yes the buckle problem. I was first asked to remove it in USA in
2003, plus the shoes. I only fly for business and always went by the
theory that if you dressed well you were not suspect, well that
theory seems to have gone. When I fly in 2 weeks where can I get a
belt sans metal buckle ? - those who know what I look like will tell
you I need a strong one. (If you know then please answer off-list to
avoid annoying others off-topic).
Renate, how nice to hear from you, we all miss you but know you lurk,
so are not far away from us. Lebanon would be good for you. With your
quals and experience you could get work with aid agencies working
with the 'civil society' type programmes there. With some you could
get a reasonable (tax free) salary, free home and living expenses,
get to go desert driving and also con them into paying you for using
your own 80 on duty, though you might have to put a 'sticker' on the
door when out on business. I have enjoyed having an employer first
pay for the use of my 80 and then send me into wild country driving
all day and paying me a salary for it too !
Enough of this off-topic stuff, sorry Julian.

Next time, I'm probably going to use a black webbing type belt I have for
holding my camera kit from Camera Care Systems. It's got a plastic snap
release buckle.

But I have the metabolism of a humming bird and a skinny frame to match.
My spare camera batteries always arouse interest - they probably look like
something nasty in the x-ray machine. On the whole, I don't mind. It's
better than the dumb restrictions placed last year with tiny bag sizes.
All the best,
