Green card for Morocco?

Do any of our well travelled members know where a green card for Morocco can
be obtained, my insurance company don't do one and nor do any other
companies I've contacted, Most seem to say that no one does, I can't believe
that though.

I insured with NFU (National Farmers Union) and green card for Morocco was
provided without any difficulty.
Going through the NFU website was problematical however; it seems you have
to call one of their local offices.
Incidentely the NFU were also quite happy with modifications such as
suspension lift, aux fuel tank etc

Chas - don't worry about a green card, just buy one at the border.
It's not too expensive but does an extra 20min at the border.
When are you going?

Hi Paul,
I tried NFU, but they won't do one as a one off, if you have your vehicle
insured with them I think it is a different matter though. I did phone one
of their branches rather than online.
I think when my insurance ie due for renewal they will be one to consider.

Chas,
Sorry if I didn't make myself clear. Yes you do need to be insured with
them.
Good luck

Hi Martin,
We are crossing from Spain on Sunday 5th April, I had been told I could get
cover at the border, but that advice was changed to being able to get it in
Spain before we get on the ferry, trouble may be early on a Sunday morning
the office may not be open.

Buying insurance at the border/port is very easy and reasonably cheap -
depending on how long your trip is. At Ceuta, the insurance brokers
have a fairly blunt pricing mechanism with only a handful of different
prices depending on whether you have a motorbike or big/small car and
how long you need the insurance for. It's probably worthless but hey it
keeps you legal.
Getting insurance and stuff sorted en route is part of the fun, IMHO.
Cheers.

Hi Chas,
Been there, done that :)
You have two options:
I couldn't find any insurer other than NFU who would issue a green card for
Morocco, (and then only if you insure with them). The problem for me was
that they only insure low risk, and for some stupid reason they classed me a
higher risk because (they said) I have a European driving license.
In actual fact I think I blew it by asking too many questions (e.g. detailed
mod list) at the time of contacting the broker, combined with a stupid
broker who got it into her head that I intended to use the car for
competition (as a result of not understanding said mod list). Once I was
black-marked in their computer as having been refused once, contacting other
branches continued to turn a blank.
My solution was to give the car to my girlfriend, who insured it with NFU,
although they didn't like it that we asked for a Morocco green card straight
away as they (rightly) think you might have it double insured then cancel
the NFU insurance when you get back.
My advice would be contact an NFU local office, get the car insured, then
ask for a green card and get confirmation that mods are ok (they told us no
problem modding the car so long as it does not affect performance, my
intercooler is tuned for fuel economy rather than performance so I'm OK :)
BTW, NFU turned out to be cheaper than my previous insurance.
OR
Ignore the above, and get the card in Ceuta or wherever you land. The
problem with this is that the insurance offices may be shut if you turn up
very early on a Saturday morning as we did.
Getting a green card caused us (and others) so much hassle and cost (I had
to cancel my old insurance) that we really made a point to Barrie at
Waypoint that the tour should be arranged so that people can get insurance
in Ceuta or Morocco.
Barrie doesn't (or didn't last time) order the ferry tickets until the day
before the trip so you can always ask him if you can get a ferry ticket to
go over the day before, get insurance in Ceuta and then meet them there the
following morning.
If I was going again I would follow the second option, although the first is
maybe better for peace of mind and once you have done it you can get green
cards indefinitely which is easier for future trips. You can be pretty sure
that you will want to go again :)
Hope this helps!
Cheers,

My experience too. I insure both LC80 and house with them, and both
premiums went down this year! Their policy gives fully comp insurance
in Europe automatically, but I haven't tried asking for in in Morocco I
must admit.

They are extremely local though, and all my dealings are with our local
office who are very helpful. I think this explains list members'
inconsistent experience, and it is definitely worth going and talking to
them in person.
