Why do Toyota fit odd plugs to the V6 engine?

Denso on the right and NJK on the left which i find very strange.

I'd read some posts in America that its normal with forerunners etc but something i've never come across before.
 
I've never checked mine. The part number is the same for all 6 so it seems odd that there are two different makes
 
Yeah very strange. The car had 4k on the clock when I bought it so wouldn't have expected anyone to have touched them.

Maybe they buy from both suppliers and use them interchangeably or, as I saw posted elsewhere, someone changed them but only did the easy to reach ones!
 
Yeah, well ill be servicing the cruiser next month and probably going to replace them all with NGK platinums. I was only curious to see how the gaps were doing after 22k and not good lol. Plus I wanted to check plug tightness as I have a ticking noise that appears under load sometimes when working the engine hard, I suspect the exhaust manifold gaskets are leaking when the exhaust temps are higher.

Would love to find some headers for it :)
 
Might be of interest if you didn't know already but the Factory Service Manual gives this info for recommended plugs:
Manufacturer Product
DENSO - K20HR-U11,
NGK - LFR6C-11

Gap for new plugs = 1.0 - 1.1mm

Tightening torque = 20NM

Platinum NGK upgrade plugs are PLFR6A-11

My gaps were around 0.045" thou and larger.

My feeler gauges are imperial lol ( 0.039 - 0.043) plug gap tolerance.
