In order to promote sales of a vehicle in its final year prior to an
upgrade it is common for manufactures to up the spec of the old before
the new is released. This was the case with the 80 series in 1997 before
the 100 series was released. Everyone new it was coming but Toyota still
had to sell the 80. So they released in the UK at least - the GX, giving
more goodies than a GS but not as high as VX. Dave Harris and I have a
matching green pair of these. The spec is as follows -
1-HDFT - Manual Trans, cloth seats 3 rows with first 2 heated , climate
control air con, ABS, mine has the dealer pack sunroof - Dave's has no
sunroof. Toyota's range of options notwithstanding.
So you could say it is a VX - but manual, with no leather.
Therefore this is how you could see a VX with cloth.
Naturally none of the above applies to non UK vehicles.
If like me you prefer manual trans and cloth seats the GX is the one to
go for.
Hope this clears things up.
