GS / GX / VX - Specs.

In order to promote sales of a vehicle in its final year prior to an
upgrade it is common for manufactures to up the spec of the old before
the new is released. This was the case with the 80 series in 1997 before
the 100 series was released. Everyone new it was coming but Toyota still
had to sell the 80. So they released in the UK at least - the GX, giving
more goodies than a GS but not as high as VX. Dave Harris and I have a
matching green pair of these. The spec is as follows -
1-HDFT - Manual Trans, cloth seats 3 rows with first 2 heated , climate
control air con, ABS, mine has the dealer pack sunroof - Dave's has no
sunroof. Toyota's range of options notwithstanding.
So you could say it is a VX - but manual, with no leather.
Therefore this is how you could see a VX with cloth.
Naturally none of the above applies to non UK vehicles.
If like me you prefer manual trans and cloth seats the GX is the one to
go for.
Hope this clears things up.

Hi Guys
The VX that I have is an english cruiser taken over here. It has the cloth
seats, ESR,EW, HS, AT, and those cloth seats so you most definatly do get
the VX with the cloth seats and all the gagets. We also have the GX version
of the cruiser but it is only a 3 litre diesel ,shorter and narower than the
VX. So if you were to buy the GX hear it would not be the same as the VX, a
total different body and all that.

Jon - I'm afraid that your confusing the Colarado 3 litre with the
Amazon. Not helped by Toyota calling them both Landcruisers.

Well - Mr Webmaster - sorry I did not spot a name on the e-mail - as I
statated there are 2 main specs - the GS base level - and the VX high
spec level , with the GX being made for approx 1 year and being a
"halfway house". If I was you I would be deciding what I prefered and
what I could afford. Manual or Auto - cloth or leather - personal
preferences - I can't advise there. Some people go for Jap - grey
imports - these more often than not do not have locking differentials -
std on UK vehicles - very expensive to retrofit.
At a minimum get a Parkers price guide to general vehicle specs and
changes with the years. Look at as many adverts on E-BAY & Auto Trader
as possible to get a feel for what is out there and what is being asked
- not the same as what is being paid !!!
Read road tests, do some research on line - and don't rush.
Remember people often get things wrong when advertising - a Landcruiser
Colarado is definitely not a true Landcruiser. It is a very good
vehicle, my girlfriend has one, but it is totally different to an 80
series.

Some Jap imports have the full locker kit. Worth checking as some are
very good condition and low mileage for age.
