Seem to be a long way from home with a very worn from brake pad. At least one piston seems properly seized. Can get a new caliper and pads in a few days from Roughtrax but will need a few tools. Socket sets are everywhere but I'm not sure about brake flare spanners. Is there are chain shop name I can search for that will likely have one? Machine mart / Halfords type place?

Is there a decent Roughtrax / Milners type place in France? @froggy Steve

You could just put some cheap pads in to see out the rest of your trip/ get you home. If you want to do the lot the caliper bolts are 17mm. You dont need a brake line spanner a open ender will do. You will obviously have to bleed the brakes, id crimp the flexi line and fill the caliper with fluid to minimise air in the system.

If I can get the piston back I am going to just throw in pads, although "cheap" pads still look like 50€ here. Off hunting for a big G Clamp tomorrow. Neighbour has leant me a socket set but all the clamps I've been offered are for wood work. If I can't shift the piston I'll get a caliper. Encouraged you think an open ended spanner will work. As I have a flare spanner at home I've never tried. Not too worried about bleeding.

Sorry, its been a long day. Youll be undoing the banjo bolt on the caliper, you will get a ring key on there or a socket. Theres a copper washer either side of the banjo.

Not trying to tell you how to suck eggs..

I didn't realise there was a banjo on the front. I know there is on the back. I need to have a better look. Very happy with any advice. Much happier with spanners when I have a spare car and know all the local shops!

I should point out I have a 120. I know the default position is 80 :)

I was indeed in default position..oops.

the thought was there :icon-smile:.
good luck with it, been there a fair few times myself.

Very similar (if not identical) to the front caliper on the 90. I've changed front pads with nothing more than a pliers and a 10mm spanner. Not saying its how it should be done, but it can be done in a bind. No specialist stuff required. As for the sized pot, they can go back with a bit of encouragement, but again, not really 'by the book' methods. Ask the locals for the nearest 'pièces d'auto' if you're stuck.

Sorry for the late reply, was munching our way through a huge rib of beef all afternoon and evening with our neighbours......... NorAuto is like a mini halfords. Where abouts are you ? If I can help ?

Thanks Steve. Neighbour mentioned NorAuto and there seem to be a few about. I'm a good bit south of you I think, near Villefranche-de-Rouerge, Aveyron. Going off to pick up a few tools now and then decide if I need a caliper or can make do with pads til I get home.

Ok, but here if you need a stop on way back
Bon courage!

Discovered L'Auto Leclerc in Rodez this morning. Pretty decent tool range up to stuff like piston ring compressors. No G Clamps anywhere though so picked up a piston wind back tool and a crowsfoot type 10mm spanner for the (non banjo) break pipe.

Windback tool was great on the un seized pistons, deformed on the seized. Added a big clamp from local garden centre and all seems good. Just got to wait for Mecredi when France can move brake pads within collecting distance.

Glad you're getting sorted. I've seen that wear profile on front pads before!
