Handbrake Update and heads up for a Gap trip.

It was supposed to go in for re-MOT today but it didn't because my friendly
tester is off sick. I'll wait for him to retest the handbrake as he is both
knowledgeable and sympathetic. I suppose it gives me time to adjust it
properly instead of bodging it; I'll have a go at it when I'm back from work
this afternoon.
On another note, the new engine is fantastic so far, the cruiser feels like
a sports car compared to the original engine. Also the lumpiness and
hesitation that I've been experiencing for months and months now has gone
completely so it was certainly enging related rather than ECU or fuel system
related. I guess it was probably the injectors but why it should have
manifested itself in such an intermittent fashion I'm not sure. Anyway, it's
cured and I have a cruiser that will again run on petrol or LPG equally.
I must run it more on petrol though as I'm sure that purely running on LPG
had some bearing to the lumpy petrol running issue.
Anyhow, it's nice just to have the cruiser back!
Now, who's up for a trip to the Gap in the next few weeks? answers on an
email please to [Email address removed].
John / Ray - where can we go now to tie in with a Gap trip? Any suggestions
for decent lanes in the area still legally driveable?
Pete

Took the wheels and spacers off yesterday in order to adjust the hanbrake
"properly".
It turns out that the shoes were correctly adjusted anyway (5 clicks on the
adjuster) and taking up the slack in the cable was all that was needed. So
no further adjustment was needed and I now have a handbrake that holds well,
or so it seems to me. It's going back in for re-test today so I'll let you
know.
Pete

Jon
I take it that means that you still drive UCR, whether or not they're dual
and also obviously BOATs but not former RUPPs?
Are W-B-I-N and Moelfre still TRO'd?

AFAIK there is still no clear guidance as to the legality of the dual status
RoW in that area and everyone has to decide for themselves depending on
their view of the situation.
Until I see something that is a clear prohibition of use I continue driving
the same lanes in that region I always have.
Jon.

Sorry, I've been so busy that I forgot the update.
The cruiser passed the MOT. The handbrake was only 18% (pass = 16%) but it
felt much, much better than before. The handbrake easily holds on my friends
steep driveway so how can it be so close to an MOT fail?
Does anyone have %age figures for their handbrake at MOT? I'd be interested
to see what range we have.
I'm still working on a Gap trip - keep you posted.
Pete

duals NERC the HA any RoW NERC more RoW W-B-I-N Moelfre TRO'd?
Oh you guys, you are at that once more. What is all these abreviations
mean? But to make crazy French man more crazy this day?
I know some Gap in France where we have see hell like 4x4 trials early
this year where my friend did win 2m place. Oh yes the winner is a UK
guy with some ptrototype Range Rover having moteur 300hp V8 from TVR
sport car. But you must not be go all to France to do them
abreveations, non?

Sorry Benoit
Driving off-piste in England and Wales has been severely restricted by a
recent piece of government law, the Nattural Environment and Rural
Communities Act (NERC or NERCA)
UCR = Unclassified Country Road, a minor, often dirt road that is government
maintained.
HA = Highways Authority, the Government branch that looks after roads.
RoW = Right of Way, - a dirt road, footpath or horse track.
W-B-I-N = Water Break It's Neck, the name of a particularly nice dirt road
in Wales.
Moelfre City = same as above but different road.
TRO = Traffic Restriction Order, slapped on by local government to stop cars
(usually) using a road.
The Gap = a very nice high altitude rock road in the Brecon Beacon Mountains
in Wales.
