headlight

Hi Guys
For a while now I have had water coming into a headlight from the front because of a hole in the glass caused by a stone hitting it.
Anyway I plug it with glue every now and again and it works for a while.
But I have noticed my high beam has been very low landing about 10ft in front of the cruiser.
I had a look and the high beam reflector has moved backwards.
I tried to get at it from the rear but cant seem to get in there to push it back.
The only access seems to be through the hole for the bulb.
As I have never seen the inside of one of these lights im literally guessing at what is wrong.
Can I fix it or do I need a new headlight.
cheers

Hello there Jon,
I am have exactly that same problem as you. What is more the adjusting
screws were all gripped up solid with corrosion and rust. So I swallow
pride and buy new light at Monsieur Toyota dealer - 320 euro.
Seem like too much money, yes but new light is so much more bright you
have to believe to see it !

Hi John,
I seem to recall that it might be possible to unclip the front part of
the headlight, although you will probably have to remove the whole unit
first.
Also, if you have a local Halfords style shop they may well sell small
patches for headlights - these are circular see through sticky patches
designed to be put over small holes.

When you say "high beam reflector" do you mean the inner light of the
pair? (Which takes a single filament H1 bulb)
If so there are two possibilities:
(1) You've got the bulb in wrongly. On mine the H1 bulb sits in a
little carrier, and the wiring harness plugs onto the back of that.
Fitting a new bulb is a complete PITA as it will only go in one way
round, and if you pull backwards on the carrier or wire while trying to
do up the clip the bulb falls out again or, as may have happened to you,
goes in at an angle.
Have a good look through the front glass to see if the bulb is seated
correctly. It should be in square with, as I recall, a little bump
fitting into a small hole on the mounting. If the light on the other
side is pointing OK then it should look just like that.
(2) Someone has attempted to adjust it in the past and got it completely
wrong. There are 2 beam adjustment screws: the one on top adjusts up
and down, and the one on the inside, nearer the fan, does left and
right. They are little shafts with (about) a 8mm hexagonal head on top.
Try turning the top one, which should be marked "U" and "D". Although
it has a screwdriver thread on top it's easier to turn with a small
spanner or socket if you've got one that fits.
Do this at night with the car pointing at a wall, and it is easy to line
the beam up roughly. For final adjustment you need to take it to a long
straight section of road to get it at exactly the right level, although
main beam is not that critical.
All the above assumes that the lights on your 92 model match those on my
96. Your light fittings and beam adjustment may be different - is
there anyone out there with a '92 that can comment if they are?
Incidentally you can get mending kits for holes in headlights. They are
cyanoacrylate glue (which sticks to glass) plus a patch, and they work
pretty well. I did one on my wife's old car and it was still there and
working when we sold it many years later.

Hi Guys
Thanks for the info.
It just passed the NCT test which checks the low beam only, if im right. So
the beams are adjusted correctly.
The bulb is in correctly etc but when I look in at the high beam inner
reflector it has moved back about a half inch.
Why I dont know but just wondered how to move it back out but then I suppose
if it moved in and I could move it out then it would move in again so it
would seem its f-----.Ah just more bad luck.
Next time Benoit try Milners they do the headlight for about 120 euro plus
shipping and VAT, a bit cheaper than Toyota but quality wise well what do
people think.

Oh but yes then Jon we must not lose thought that we drive on the
droit and you drive on the gauche. So Milner's light's would be some
probleme here in France.

Quick fix for that - Put the bulb in upside down ;-)
