Hellroaring isolators/combiners

Hi All,
Now I've settled on the FZJ80, I'm planning on using my 2x exide maxxima
900dc batteries to create a proper dual battery setup - with one battery
acting as a normally-isolated backup.
I'm considering a Hellroaring BIC to do this - seems to be a good way of
having a backup-only configuration that can be switched from inside the
cab and allows automatic charging of the backup.
I was just wondering if anyone has any experience of these, or knows a better
setup.
For info, I have no winch, nor to I plan to run significant ancillary loads.
Cheers - Andy

Andy,
I had a Hellroaring system you mentioned fitted in my Landrover (there's a
writeup including a diagram on www.overlandcruiser.info (go to
Modifications/Battery - connection, split charging and cut-off switch ).
The Hellroaring BIC is quite good - small, robust and reliable. The technical
support offered by the supplier is first rate.
In the LC, due to the 12/24V configuration, I have a more sophisticated system,
also based on BIC split chargers/combiners. The diagram is here -

Hi Roman - that's good enough for me to give one a whirl - I've just ordered
one, so I'll see how I get on with it.
On the same subject, you wouldn't happen to have a spare o/s battery traykicking around that you'd like to liquidate? Failing that, I know you can
get a metal aftermarket one from man-a-fre.
Cheers for now,
Andy
