Hi Just purchased a new set of Alloys for the 80 series Landcruiser as the
old ones are all pitted and salt damaged. I was going to put the tyres that
were on the wheels on the new alloys but now thinking about changing to off
road tyres. I want some tyres that are 80% off road and 20% on road. Can
anyone tell me what is the biggest size knobbly tyres you can fit on to a
16x8J Rim without any mods to suspension or bodywork.
I know the standard size will be fine but wanted there to look like there is
more rubber in the arches.
I know guys on here talk about 31's etc and I'm just not sure of what is
right for the standard 80 Series Cruiser.
Many thanks in advance....
Please Help -
Cheers Phil

Hi Phil,
From memory you should be able to go up to a 285/75/16 without any serious
rubbing.
Out of interest what sort of driving will you be doing - I find mud tyres
on the 80 too much of a nightmare to use on the road, particularly in the
wet or icey/snowy conditions that I will be glad to get shot of the ones on
my 80 at the moment.
In your position I would be more inclined to stick some serious mud tyres
on your old rims and then keep the nice shiney rims shod with ATs.

I vote with Julian 4 a 2nd set of mud/more serious tires on old rims.
then run AT's on the regular ones.
That's what I do and will continue 2 do so.
I run 34" Simex Jungle Tracker II with 2.5" lift and great in mud (not that I c any over here :) - 2 much snow !!!)
