Hi,
I'm off on hols to the Isle of Mull, Scotland for until the 25th.
Hopefully you will all play nicely whilst I am away.
If you need to get hold of me, the best bet is to email me via
[Email address removed].
Whilst away, I would be interested to hear from fellow 80s owners to
see if they have any bright ideas for straightening the bottom half of
the rear doors - I have just noticed mine bows outwards far enough that
the seal at the bottom in the middle doesn't, if you see what I mean.

Julian,
Have a nice time on Isle of Mull
Do u want to wheel while u're up that way?
My old club SWAT is running an outings: -
The Scottish Off-road Club are hosting a treasure hunt and Ceilidh on 16th
October and have extended the invitation to our club members. The event
starts in Blair Atholl and the ceilidh will be in Bridge of Nethy with an
optional overnight stay. This event is open to all 4x4?s and is suitable for
shineys. Cost for the event will be about ?50.00 per person for the Ceilidh
with D,B &B, or about ?25.00 per person for dinner and Ceilidh only. Members
with internet facilities can check their website at www.sorc.org.uk for
details, those without can phone 0131 620 3042 or 07973 343684.
Drumclog ? Oct 10th. Meet at the quarry for 0930hrs. Total Off road
magazine will be present to photograph some of the vehicles which took part
in the Argyll Challenge
Entry fee is ?15.00
Ballencreiff Farm Training Day ? October 24th. The site is in the hills to
the north of Bathgate and is a reasonable size but unfortunately the best
bits are excluded due to a SSSI preservation order being applied to them.
The day will basically be used for training the less experienced members in
aspects of driving, recovery, winching, etc ?anything they may wish to learn
about. The site will also be open for other members as a driving day but
some parts may be excluded if they are required for training/demonstration
purposes. Meet at Harthill services on the M8 for 0930hrs.
Entry fee is ?15.00
Talk with [Email address removed] as he is club guy. Good bunch and won't
find a TLC running around. Are u running street tires?
Enjoy the eagles on IOM - plenty of Goldie's if u know where to look.
Lal in sunny Colorado with some snow on mountains now :)

Hi Brendan,
It will be tricky with the family, but I am sure we will be able to
find a few tracks as we scramble our way around the island.

Julian, have a good holiday. If you get the oppurtunity try and visit
Staffa and go inside Fingals cave (the composer Mendleson, forgive
spelling) it's huge . Also the hexagonal basalt rock columns on Staffa
are amazing. It's just a short boat trip from Mull.

Staffa is definitely on our list - the cottage we are staying in has a boat and is that side of Mull, so a short trip.
Cheers,

JulianHave a nice holiday
I remember reading somewhere that the later 80 series has a strengthening cross-member in the lower tailgate to prevent exactly this happening - the original bent under the weight of people standing on it. I don't imagine that would be easy to retro-fit since it will be welded internally.
I suppose you could bend it back by jacking the truck up, placing a rounded former (tree trunk with blanket padding?) underneath, lowering to contact, then standing on the sides to bend it back. But I suspect you would damage the external surface unless you were really careful to get a nicely distributed pressure.
Maybe you could get a lower tailgate door from a later truck.
