I went up to Eastmoor off road course today to chat with the Spondon Off Road Club who use it about twice a year. Here's an aerial view of the site. It's compact but good fun.

Anyway, with the camping on site (best to hire a couple of loos though) I thought that it might make an ideal base for laning in Derbyshire and the Peak District. Now I am not a frequent laner, but I know that there are some lanes round here that are worth driving. So in the spirit of the Lincomb event, I wondered if there'd be any interest in a base camp with off road fun and access to the Peak. No time in mind although it best when it's muddy. Very close to Chesterfield, some good pubs and fantastic walking if you are mentally ill or something.

Anyway, here's some snaps of the course. You rent it for the weekend and it's yours entirely.

Well you get the idea. Dunno how much it is, but I'll find out. Obviously it's quite a long way for some, but so's Salisbury Plain for us Midlanders. Easy access from M1, M42, M6 etc

So, just an idea. It's pretty non damaging really but plenty of challenges and very good for tyre testing as grip here is pretty testing. lots of trees for winching too.

Cheers

Chris

We were driving the lanes for a good 4 hours, and 90% non damaging.

However, that place looks a good place to get some fun in.

For a small consideration you could use my facilities;

Ahh, the old Bumper Dumper. Very handy. Obviously as it's a National Park, you have to pick up afterwards. I get my dog to do that then he knows what it's like for me! I'll get a price for the weekend and get back to you. I doubt it's that much given where it is. Someone who knows the lanes would be necessary of course to lead a group. We might be able to join another group I suppose on the course. Maybe even the Spondon Club. I shall speak to Stewart their leader.

Ah!, the trick is to screw four cup hooks to the underneath of the seat and hang an old supermarket bag below, voila! no clearing up :chores-mop:
Chas

Not sure that my dog is that clever to be honest. But I'll ask him.

Do you have a specific dates in mind or were you just floating the idea generally.......

Navy goes on main leave shortly......!

Just floating Tommo. As you can see the interest has been overwhelming. I found out that the weekend costs about £100 to have the site to ourselves, which is very cheap. Loo hire would be extra of course but you can do the maths yourself in terms of only 10 people turning up. It's cheap weekend. Fuel on top too, but it just may fit into a little plan somewhere. Best in the wet really so more towards Autumn I'd say.

Chris

Count me in 100 % as long as i can do the dates. I would love to go round my local lanes with someone who knows them. The site looks good fun. Get nice and dirty agin and do a bit more damage. Excuse to get the wallet out again.

Ps. Is the bloke graham the chap that i brought my filter system off ?

Well i'm up for it and i'm sure that Claire and Ecky and the rest of the hobbits will want to return to the shire....

Hey i'd be interested in something like this... date dependent of course

I shall contact Gary the owner and see what dates he has. It might be booked solid. But I doubt it. Then we can start to plan something. You can certainly wildcamp there and have a fire, BBQ etc

Chris

There is that off road track on the a515 going from ashbourne to buxton as well cris. I know the owner of that. I could have a word if you want any more places for a play day or weekend.

No Karl, it's not. This is above Chesterfield, near Holymoorside. A place called Eastmoor. It's very near to Chatsworth.

Chris

Sounds a great idea, and a day or two playing around ?

Graham

We'd need a few more to make it a decent bash Graham. I'm not pushing it, the track will be there for us to visit whenever we want. Would have been nice this year, but we all have full diaries. We need to pick a date and then work towards it. Your mate might be able to coordinate the laning activities.

Chris

I would be up for this depending on dates,a trip ooop cooontry, visit you local lads.
cheers gary
