Good to hear you guys chatting. I'll return to 'lurk mode' now and get you
on the digest.
Mik.

Welcome Mik,
You will be one of the younger members.
I am only joking no need for the young ones so shuffle about. Co Mayo is a
beautiful county. You have a fellow compatriot on this board but I am not
sure what county he is in, perhaps John C you will let us know? No need to
lurk just join in it sounds as though you should know a thing or two. The
later models of 80 such as yours are better IMHO. I expect that you may be
watching the game that taking place in Cardiff this PM. Jolly nice to have
you aboard. Anthony Graham

two of us from the midlands, im in Mullingar, still a good bit away from you

[Cv Seal]

Hi Guys
I just noticed a leak from the left seal on the axel at the front, this one
had a new CV joint put in about 1 and a half yesrs ago. Its not much yet but
still enough to leave a drip on the drive way and is fairly covering the
inside wall of the tyre. It looks more like oil than grease and is quite
black in colour. I only had this replaced about 1 and a half years ago and
now it seem to be going again. So I know you are all waiting for the
questions well here they are.
How long before it dries out, if it will at all,
Would this be a reason for failing the NCT test next week,
Whats involved in replacing the seal, Could it be done by yours truly or
should I make an appointment with the cruiser doctor.
Any thoughts on this anoying thing.
Thanks Guys

Welcome Mik to the board.
I'm from Galway and all the way over here in Colorado. (long story if i
can't see saga via search then I can send u 'info')
Off on Sunday for a week to Utah with Robbie for some 4x4ing and camping
with 2 kids (no wife, 2 kids left at home, no dogs and no bird - for a
change!)
Just put on some bigger springs, managed to 'borrow' some MTR 285's from a
buddy and done a front axle service. Have dropped my front driveshaft (have
lock/unlock front hubs) to 'try' and get some better mpg on long trip (7hrs
to get there).
Hoping to have some fun!
Planning long-term to move back to either Letterfrack or somewhere on the
Mayo side !
Let me know if I can help u out with any bits from over here as see
Robbie/Christo (Sleeoffroad) quite a bit and lots of 40s around.
I believe there was another guy with an 80 in either Mayo or Keey -I'll try
and find his email. He was working on wind-farms.
My email is [Email address removed]
PS Whats your insurance cost for an 80 in IRL?
Belated St.Paddys Day to u - as usual they have lots of 'weird' Irish
customs over here :)

Hi Mik,
I believe there are now two FJ40 owners in the group. Julian, is that
correct?
What is an Australian spec 'Swagamn'? I have a 40 too. Mine is Japanese
built for the Indonesian market, it's the three geared version, built 1979,
impoted to the UK by the previous owner who bought it in Java.
I have just imported from Aus (it's arrived!!!) a complete power steering
kit which will be fitted just as soon as the heater arrives as there is a
huge air con unit to come out and I want to do it all at the same time.
Welcome to the group, I'm relatively new too, it's nice to have another 40
owner.

Hi Steve
I was just interested in the costs that you had to pay to get the power
steering imported like the duty tax etc.
Thanks

Hi John
Not quite sure yet, waiting for the exchange rate to come through on the
card, but $1500 AUS was the price for everything excluding the heater which
was another $120 AUS.
A friend of mine was working there briefly, he also has family there. So he
had all the parts delivered to a relations house and then brought all the
parts back as luggage. He had a posh seat so the extra cling film wrapped
suitcase weighing 31kg's was within his baggage allowance. No duty, no tax,
ha!
All parts were 2nd hand straight off another FJ40 and were still dripping
oil etc in the garage when he went to get the parts...nice.
I had quotes out of South Africa and Holland that were more expensive,
quotes out of the UK that would make you fall off your perch. Australia was
by far the cheapest, however still waiting for the heater as matey forgot to
put it on the van when delivering locally
. He's currently sorting the courier to send the last bit, not long now.
The contact came from Jon (Bosnia), so thank you Jon, straight talking
Darren made it happen. Quite a feat of coincidence and luck that my mate
Malcolm's relation also lived very close to the parts specialist.
