Hydraulic winch motor.

Hi,
I have today called Allen Byrne about the requirement for a motor
driven pump for the Milemarker. The spec. is for a 12 liters/min. flow
rate at 120 bar peak pressure. The pump would need to have 3/4"JIC
threads, this calls for a flat base for an 'O' ring seal. There would
also need to be one side of the pump ported. This porting is to stop
the winch motor driving the drive motor/pump in reverse if you are
letting yourself down with the winch, in efect back driving.
Among other alternatives suggested was the BMW mini pump, which
is electric, you would have to put two of these in parallel as they
are only 5L/min.
The second alternative was to upgrade the Land cruiser pump with
a better one. This was thought to be the best, and probably cheapest,
way to go if the standard pump was not so good, which it is rumoured
to be. This option would include a safety valve to protect the
steering system if needed.
Now that I am even more confused I leave you to make up your own minds.
As a point of interest, allen is testing out a new Milemarker.
This one is more for comp. as it has a fast line speed. If you are
interested there are details on the web page.
Regards, Clive.

Thanks, I'll pass it on to my contact at the weekend to see what he can
come up with.
I had considered replacing the factory pump with something bigger, but
then you have all the engineering issues with getting something to fit
in the hole!
Jon Wildsmith has ordered one of the Type R winches and should be
playing/trying to fit it over the Christmas break!

Julian,
The type R winches are a bit fast for occasional users, they are
really for comp use, or people that winch often. I would not go that
route but I wish Jon well with it..

Bit fast, how can it be too fast :) Mine will be slightly different to
the one on their web site, smaller cc motor so back to a 4.7k pull and a
bit slower line speed but as line speed is controlled by engine revs it
will vary from normal electric winch sort of speed to quite fast.
Should be an interesting project when the bits turn up.
Best Regards,
Jon.
