I KNEW IT WOULDNT BE LONG...WHHHYY!!

WELL! After a lot of thought, and a long nervy chat with the missus, iv come to a conclusion regarding the LC 120....... I don't like it, Its crap, As a work horse it has no comparison to even the Colorado.. The engine can only be compared to a knackered Transit engine, the tapperty knockerty noise is unbareable . I should of learnt my lesson when I had a Hi Lux D4d. And if that engine is 161hp il eat my shoes...Ok so this is probably my fault but I did my homework, bought one with one owner, full Toyota service history. years MOT.. Bla Bla Bla,. Crawled around underneath, took it for a test drive. what else is there to do?... But within two weeks iv never heard so many, squeaks, pops , bangs, squeels, and knocks, AND the brakes, even with new discs and pads all round they are shocking. If I could have found a decent Colorado 95that wasn't full of rust. I would have bought it hands down over the 120.... So conclusion.. I mean no offence or disrespect to any 120 owners... I hope you love yours, But I will never love this heap! SO if you see a graphite grey 120 lc5. with the REG ending in JAM,on ebay ... DONT buy it:thumbdown: And these are my missus words, she said 'Its a poofed up hairdressers car'

X reg V6 petrol Collie, 77K miles super solid condition, not really for sale but might let go to to a club member.
PM me if interested. Its a pity you didn't get the black one but I get what you mean about the D4D engine note compared with the 1KZ.
I just shows a one owner FTSH truck may not turn out as well as a multi owner self serviced one.

Thanks Andy, But im not a fan of the petrol.. And getting rid of my self serviced Colorado that I owned nearly 5 yrs was a big mistake..I don't know if there are some chaps on here who understand the law, But im seriously considering getting trading standards involved. The truck was MOTd the day I picked it up, and no way in hell should this have passed... iv got the MOT test centre's details so il talk to him first then the dealer.. I probably hav'nt got a leg to stand on...... Truck was fine on day of test they will no doubt say.. Live and learn.AGAIN

I drove my brothers 120 for 10 miles and decided it was a nice car but i prefer 4x4's so i would never own one .

My 1kz-te 90 is modified and my D4D 90 has a 2" lft and 33" tyres as well , and then i have as mint an 80 as you could hope to find with 33" mud tyres fitted but otherwise standard - and the mrs only wants to drive the 1kz .

Looks like next year will see Suzuki take the "best 4x4 crown" and likely keep it forever

Suzuki Eh!... My mate who did the diagnostics on the 120 mainly repairs Landrover /Rangerover. and is an independent specialist, And he confessed that the way the modern 4x4 market is. There is nothing out there that he would recommend to anyone... Not Landcruiser or Landrover. He makes his living repairing new 4x4s.. As a fan of 4x4s he is actually saddened by the state of things.. He blames electronics:thumbdown:

Now I spotted this last week and was going to post it. Is it just me or does it make anyone else think Mercedes G Wagon?

I’d like to have a look round one and I bet it’ll knock spots off most things off road as it’s going to be light and nimble.

I guess you did me a favour there Joe, The 120 I got does not suffer the same problem and is really quiet but that might be the difference between an 04 and an 05.
I've just taken a guy who is interested in the V6 Collie out for a test drive and thought " why am I selling this, it is so good". Fortunately he didn't say yes so I'm still undecided whether to let it go or not.

Iv said it on other threads/posts before, That the Colorado is the most underrated of all the Toyota Trucks. It deserves higher praise. Its a cracking work horse with a brilliant engine... There will be a place reserved in Hell for the man who designed and built the D4d..... I seriously put it on a level par with the air cooled VW engine. And the Perkins engine they put in the old Sherpa..... Its that bad!!! OH! and the Talbot Horizon:thumbdown:

My 120 is quiet, not knocky or rattly at all. Perhaps there was something wrong with yours?

The engine is smooth, brakes very good (even better now with new pads and discs), smooth to accelerate, amazing auto box. Very good road manners. The whole car feels rock solid and robust.

I think that maybe your heart just wasn't in it and that, after your first issue rearing its head your mind was made up perhaps?

Good luck with your next purchase.

My engine is smooth and since I blanked off the egr valve , fitted a oil catch can and vented crank gas to air , and fitted a ozbush fuel mapper its even smoother , quieter , in fact on the high way you would be forgiven for thinking it was a petrol engine .

The 3.0L 1KD also used in the 90 series though there's few about is also known as a D4D and its a good engine , you likely got the 2KD .

Engines are getting smaller and more finely tuned to improve mpg due to EU law but that makes them inherently weak so they chuck a heap of electronic junk into the mix in order to prevent self destruction .

Product quality and longevity has been banned - nothing to do with profit margins you understand oh no its to save the planet - i was talking to a daffodil the other day and it told me so :icon-rolleyes:

I think it would be the 1KD in Higgys. Sounds like perhaps he got a bit of a duffer, but maybe reconditioned injectors and a bit of rebushing would help, it has got 200k on it. I’ve not read of too many problems on the electronics side, the main thing was the injector seal problem and also occasional piston damage, though this seems to be connected with remaps. People in Oz seem to be covering big miles without too many problems.
It did take me a while to get used to the 1KD 120 after the 95 (the V6 is a nice engine), but apart from its looks, with a set of BFGs on, it does seem to be smooth and quiet and just as capable.
Interesting post by Tony re the Ozbush mapper ( http://www.ozbushelectronics.com.au ).

benefits I have found with the small and easy mods were more power at lower revs as the turbo spools up at lower revs , smoother and quieter engine , and better fuel economy as the auto box changes up sooner and less down changes on uphill slopes , and the engine oil stays a lot cleaner . the ozbush mapper I have it on the economy setting as I get enough power hike from the egr block , and crankcase gas mod with oil catch can , the ozbush mapper stops the engine light lighting up when you fit a blanking plate at the engine side of the egr cooler , as well as giving you the option turning the plus or minus of even more power or better fuel economy . I also have a K&N air filter fitted .
PS I know its illegal to block your egr valve and vent crank case gas to air , but this is Cyprus no ones bothered I had no probs it passing mot which takes no more than 10 minutes to test a car and lasts 2 years . they were more bothered about my blacked out front windows .

Love my Jimny. If I'm not picking up more than 150Kg and it's less than 40 miles it's what I always take. They rot worse than a 120 though and I've had the gearbox out before 50K miles was up! 120 has just done its annual 4000 mile round trip in France and Spain and still going strong but I do need to find some new rear control arms, a bit swayey on the Autoroute.

i think the error you made was buying the early year production model.

Mine is a 2009, basically last year of production, and the early issues of d4d corrected.
On top of that for the landcruiser Toyota makes incremental small changes even if it is not officially a facelift.
Honestly on the highway mine is more quiet than the new C-HR I have. For sure the road noise is less.
I have no weird noises or creaks even when off-road.
I also know that for the 120 the manual is one of the crappiest gearboxes from Toyota, the auto is fantastic tough.

Love my Jimny.

Think i read this new one offers a top speed of 90mph and it has me thinking if only they would make it bigger , as is it crossed my mind that 50 grand would give a family of 4 a new car each !

Are you taking notes Mr Toyoda
