Toyota has provided further proof (if it were needed) that its Hilux pick-up is both near-unstoppable and ear-indestructible, taking one to the edge of Iceland's Eyjafallajökull volcano, just hours before its eruption.
The Hilux, prepared by specialist firm Arctic Trucks to the same extreme environment specification as the one the Top Gear team took across the Arctic to the Magnetic North Pole, carried scientists and monitoring equipment to the volcano before it erupted.
The more or less unpronounceable volcano brought European air travel to a standstill when it erupted last Wednesday and is estimated to be costing air lines around £130m a day in lost revenue. But for all the chaos Eyjafallajökull has caused, it seems no match for a Toyota pick-up with 38-inch tyres...
