Intro - new member

Hi all, and thanks for the welcome Julian. Here's a brief intro to me
and my 'cruiser.
My name is Alan Thomson and I live in Dunfermline, Scotland - just about
25 minutes north of Edinburgh. I'm 51 years old, married to Karen, we
have two grown up daughters and one grandson (10 years old). I work in
the insurance industry (but we don't do car insurance - sorry!) .
My vehicle is a 1994 KZJ70 called Mudcruzr (for pics and to read more
see http://www.mudcruzr.com), there are no real mods other than the
exhaust (which is the 6th one that's been on the vehicle since I got it
2 years ago! - long story - I'll tell it some day) and 31x10.50x15
Grizzly Claws. On order is a set of OME springs & shocks from
frogsisland4x4 which should give me a 2" lift. They are due to arrive
next week. Once they're on, my next tyres will be 33"
I compete in RTV trials with the Scottish Off Road Club
(www.sorc.org.uk) and I'm also a member at the Scottish Off Road Driving
Centre (http://www.scotoffroad.co.uk/main.html) which gives me access to
several hundred acres of off road terrain 24/7 365 days/year and it's
only about 30 minutes from home ) I also like to marshal at off-road
events and recently I've been involved at both the Scottish Hillrally
and the Scottish round of the British Off Road Championships.

Good to "meet" u. I lived near Dunblane for 6 years with a FZJ80 and
wheeling with http://www.scotwest.org.uk/ (mixed group but mainly LR's) and
venues varied at each outing. Was good fun and learned a lot (of mud
wheeling and side hill cambers). Got a lot of pinstriping where the LR's
would fit thru no problem but my beast make the gorse tunnel a little wider!
Now in Colorado (with same truck) and wheeling over here is 150% different.
No mud. Either dirt trails and with lotsa of rock or in winter time all snow
(which as British Rail says is "nothing like the snow your momma knows" -
its really light, loose stuff with no grip (here in Colorado the air is very
dry and 5-10K ft elevation depending on where u wheel). Like once every 3-5
years they actually get 'normal' wet snow. My Simex over here are kinda
going to waste!
Wheeling in Moab is even more bizarre! Will post some trip reports and pics
for Julian to put up at some stage
If anyone needs some help finding US stuff or transportation (don't travel
back n forth as much as I used to) please drop me a line

that look factory/OEM, custom bash plate, 3-piece custom roof-rack with
wind-deflector & ladder & water/petrol carrier & extra height rail;
breathers, CDL switch, tiltable middle seats;
Awaiting: pin 7 mod, sliders to undent ...
Needing: 'Podvin-style' wrap around bars to attach to sliders and front
bumper, 10mm body lift, custom rear bumper, on-board compressor, airbags on
top of coils for instant lift (any wheel), passenger airbag turn-off s/w,
pesky heater hose; redo injector wiring; extra fusebox; push front seats
back; bash plate under front bumper; new front-bumper; reading lights;
console dimmer; 2nd battery; waxoil underbody; heater pipe for L foot;
car-computer system with lots of add-ons (Mp3, DVD, GPS, OBD reader/grapher
etc.) ; water squiters/wipers - front lights; etc. etc. (and more $$)

That's interesting - we're planning our holiday next year and we'll be
flying into Colorado (unsure Colorado Springs or Denver) and driving to
Las Vegas via Moab! I want to hire a 4x4 to do some of the trails around
Moab but it seems that all the rental companies have are J**ps - I'd
really like to hire a 'cruiser, but it'd have to be a reasonable size
rental company because I want to pick up in Colorado and drop off in
Vegas - any local info on rental companies that might hire me a 'cruiser?
Plenty mud here, wettest summer I can remember )
Look forward to reading them - I'm looking for as much info about Moab
as I can get.
Come back to Scotland and you won't be saying that......

Welcome Allan to the list.
It is a bit unfortunate for the Scottish contingent, just as you join,
Stuart Hamilton and Andy Bell who aren't that far from you are about to
emigrate to France and South Africa respectively - personally I would
prefer to move TO Scotland.
We are always keen to get more members on board so if you come across
any more LC owners, do steer them to the list.
