Seems the man was kinda impressed - a little, I didn't know it weighed
that much! the car not Jeremy!
IMHO there should be a "Top Gear/Fifth Gear/Overlander" kinda show on
Misus, Toyos (inc hilux/hilux surf etc) etc, built in the UK, Europe and
Japan, and maybe at some point, comparing different makes and models
with equivalent makes and models. There could also be some nice
'Location, location, location' shots too! You could get, for instance
toyos in Ragnarok (Iceland) or in the pyrennees, or in Europe's only
desert in Spain, or in Japan and the mountains of Japan
All I get is the virtues of UK built (and also Europe built)landrover
car ranges.
Anybody out there share the same opinion?

Hi Renate,
I caught a repeat over the weekend of a Driven episode with the over
grown poodle looking presenter driving LCs in Iceland including the new
LC - most of the show was dedicated to the story.

Virtues! Rover owners seem to gloss over how unreliable and badly
designed they are. Everyone who has own a Discovery (mobile fish pond)
reckons it's the biggest mistake they've made. I recently attended a
Land rover experience day, One of the instructors was extolling the
Virtues of the new Range Rover we were in. He got rather "Peeved" when I
point out that most the interior the engine and gearbox were "nicked"
out
of a BMW 540 (my missus has one). Having driven my wifes car on several
occasions I was a little concerned how the gearbox shifted into park in
this particular vehicle. So I always used the handbrake. The next guy
in the drivers seat puts it in park and stopped the engine( no
handbrake). As he got out of the vehicle, there was a loud click, as the
vehicle took off unoccupied backwards down a hill. Only the driver
jumping back in and wrenching on the handbrake, stopped
the "new" Range Rover from becoming a plie of scrap!. Yes they are most
probably marginally better off road than a TLC, but the Jeep quadratrak
sytem is very good
and I've not seen a Jeep/ Range Rover comparison. I almost bought a
P38 Range Rover, even the owner of the garage I went to advised not to
buy one !.

LandRovers are - Cheap unReliable And underPowered

ROB/RENATE/CHRIS
I have owned Range Rovers and series LandRovers but I have yet to meet one
that outperforms a Landcruiser on or off-road.
The design of Landrovers lends itself to bodywork abuse better than the L/C,
other than that they are heavy, unreliable incredibly underpowered and rely
on a design first seen back in 1969!!
In fact if it hadn't taken them until 1983 to fit coils to the 88" which
became the 90" then they might just have kept up with being near the top.
I am so fed up with hearing how good L/R are when I know from my own
experience they are c**p.
I bought my first Hilux back in 86 and then you couldn't even enter AWDC
events without an L/R. Most L/R drivers have their heads shoved so far up
the backsides its untrue.Oh they are the best blah x blah x blah.
My Hilux did me 100k miles and had done at least that when I bought it and
it was more comfortable, more reliable and more economical than the series
three with which it is very similar in design and which it replaced.
Just look what the UN drive, or even our own army-They use something called
a Wolf which used to be a Landrover but is 'beefed up' by GKN because the
normal version was not good enough.Go over to Aus and see who drives
what.L/R don't bother with that mate
As to the newer body Range Rovers which are not true L/R design- more c**p,
grossly underpowered unless you get a huge petrol version!!The 2.5 litre 6
cylinder manual is so gutless it won't even tow a trailer, my local dealer
actually had to swap a manual for an auto because of this.
I have also owned a Jeep Cherokee and cannot see any advantage to
Quadratrac, only that you can have rear wheel drive or four wheel drive.
Mitsubishi have been doing that for years they call it super select. The Jeep
was a poor design which suffered clearly because the money had run out after
the front axle was engineered. It even leaked when I washed it with a hose.
Also remeber folks that
Because we used to make L/R we only got a small selection of Toyota and
other makes of 4x4
Because we used to make L/R we are surrounded by drivers of them and overun
with them in breakers yards and on our roads
Because we used to make L/R our vehicles are considered inferior by a bunch
of people who still feel that it is unpatriotic to drive a Jap vehicle and
refuse to believe that they may be wrong
