Just thought I'd say G'day!

As it says in the title really. I'm looking forward to meeting new folks and
faces. People know me either as 'archie' or 'harvey' depending if they're
counting the number of fiberglass arches I've broken on greenlanes or if
they're reading my vehicle's numberplate with a strong Bristolian accent.
For the record though my name is Al.
I own a 1993 70 series coil sprung LC with a 1KZT engine. At the moment I'm
tossing up whether to keep the vehicle and build an offroad trailor so my
wife an I can drive from Bristol UK to Melbourne, Oz or whether or not to
build a custom Land Rover shell and chassis with Toyota mechanicals. The 70
is an awesome piece of kit, often surprising many 'hard core' offroaders
with its capability but it is a little short on space for long distance
touring. I'm particularly proud of the fact that it was my first Ebay
purchase sight unseen and that luck was most definitely on my side. I'm also
glad of the fact that I've been treasurer for a Land Rover club for 2 years
and yet have been driving a LC! How nice it is to stirr the muddy waters...
I have tried to start up a small Toyota offroad club in Bristol but without
success and would like to try again in the Cambridge area of the UK so if
anyone is of like mind I would definitely like to meet with you on Sunday as
it sure beats going offroad on my own.
Drop a line to say G'day if you want... otherwise see you Sunday folks!

Al,
Nice intro and welcome.
Regards, Clive.

Hi Alastair,
Why not get an 80 or try to source a 78 troupie instead? At least it
will save a lot of hassle either doing the conversion of having to
maintain the remaining Landrover items on the trip ;-)

I am not sure who would take the insult, Toyota or Land Rover. Land Rover
have cheap panels but I doubt if it would be cost effective to build a
Defender bodied Cruiser compared to carrying out repairs as required. I have
been able to supply a new 78 series Troopie and can get pickups, all LHD I
am affraid but they are cheap.
I have also got a guy looking for 75 series pickups in the middle east, I
have suggested I will by in qty if they are under ?2k each. anyone
interested let me know.

OK, I have been on this case for a while we have had one in for a
considerable amount of service and refurb work recently. We are currently
preparing a new 78 series for a round the World trip, pics will be on our
new website by the end of the month.
I have someone in Algeria looking for cheap 75 series and also in the Sudan,
I have been told that they can be purchased regularly for between 1500-2000
each, I have said I will be buy 3 at a time subject to having 4 pics of each
one with a brief spec of each one. obviously there is a degree chance here.
I will keep the group informed as I know.

Is that 78 troopie for Matt and Red? I was in Iceland with them
when they had the LR nightmare and I was looking to see the Troopie
when it arrived.

Yes it is, we have 3 technicians working on it flat out at the moment, Get
this! they have the first diesel powered ceramic hob to be fitted in the UK,
primarily for the Motorhome market but hey, what the heck. The vehicle will
have a full photo story done and I hope to get it on our new website next
month, site goes live on wed this week.
This thing is going to be awsome!
