I own a 2001 50th anniversary land cruiser v6 . Seems that the gear is damaged as per my mechanic. The price of the gear would be like more than a 2500$ , is there any alternative gear ? Or Is there a cost effective gear and engine alternative ?

Hmmmm

Not aware they do a v6 in the 100 model.

Which gear?

Which gear?

I think he means Gearbox - presumably an Automatic.

We need more info on what this truck actually is - some pictures of the inside & underside would be useful.

Hi Bob ,

Yes it is an I6, and I do mean the automatic gearbox , as I did not know that the gearbox oil need to be changed every 20,000 km, my automatic gearbox was damaged and need to be replaced. Now it cost like 2,500$ here , I was trying to search on the net If there is a better solution like more cost effective , like changing the engine and gearbox to another compatible less expensive engine and gearbox

There’s more to the auto transmission system than just the gearbox.

Why don’t you post up what problems you are having with your gearbox and what damage has been found as there are other parts that can cause problems with the auto box that can be a straightforward fix.

Possible faults include kick down cable becoming stiff, coolant in the gearbox from the radiator, valve block coils etc. It’s very easy for mechanics to condemn whole parts when smaller items may be the cause. I’m not saying this IS the case here but there’s a wealth of knowledge on these vehicles on here including the auto boxes which are known to be pretty much bomb proof.

How long did you leave it without changing the fluid?

I think finding an engine and gearbox or a gearbox and swap it for less than your $2500 is not going to happen, but it could be a case that the box can be fixed depending on what has happened to it. Alternately sourcing a good used box may be possible.

I agree with Star Cruiser. Engines & Auto gearboxes don't work without a bucket-full of specialised electronics. A different engine/gearbox combination wouldn't work with your existing wiring. It would be a world of pain - for you and your Bank Account!

A replacement (identical) gearbox from a wreck (not a worn-out one) or a gearbox overhaul would. I'm afraid. be the cheapest solution in the long run.
