Sorry Marek, but this thread had been bounced back and forth quite a bit on
the Birfield list.
It would appear that, for off-road, or dusty conditions, the K.& N. don't
work. Well, it does, but at what price?
I like the gen on the 'peswiki' site though. It ties in with what I know
about the Forte and the way it removes 'varnish' from injectors (acetone is
a varnish and paint solvent).
On the face of it, it's well worth looking into. I will certainly be doing
a little research myself as I know exactly what my cruiser does to the
gallon / litre. I've checked it religiously over the last 5000 miles.
Only trouble is I believe that 100% pure acetone is hard to get over here
in Ireland.

Will see the long term affects on how the K&N filter performs with dust
I guess here in Aust with regular inspections.
As I have mentioned I have been running Acetone for a month or so and
will continue to do so due to the positive results.
I'm also a member of the Yahoo Acetone test group. I have seen many
positive tests carried out by members but there have also been some
concerns raised as well.
One issues raised are concerns the long term affects on engine lubrication:

Hence as with any experimentation one will need to keep a balanced
prospective .

Thanks Marek, I appreciate that acetone is a very strong solvent and
probably wouldn't do the engine oil much good.
(Do I take it you are now having second thoughts?)
As a matter of fact, I worked with acetone several years ago in connection
with the glass-fiber trade.
I promice, I won't do any jumping in with both feet till I've done a lot

I will continue to use Acetone as the amount is very small and to date I
have seen positive results with power and economy increases.
I tend to keep and open mind and look at the all pros vs the cons hence
the link re lubrication.
Being a member of the acetone test group helps as results of tests ppl
have been conducting are also posted on the site.
An email response from LaPoint (he wrote the paper on Acetone in fuel)

during all that time in the gas. Went 567,000 miles before the 80 below
wind chill froze the water pump on Dec. 16, 1989 in Saint Paul. When I
pulled the head, the cylinders had .004 to .007 wall wear. I had done
the valves in Wisconsin in 1983 but they did not really need grinding. I
just lapped them. The MPG averaged 26 on the road.
My 1995 Neon that is now 10 years old at 130,000 miles and runs with
acetone all the time. It runs perfectly. Absolutely perfect. Just
averaged 45 MPG IN TOWN last week. And just last weekend we averaged 50
to 73 MPG on a test run through Wisconsin with special mileage devices
attached. Never had engine work.

still runs great and has 130,000 miles on it.
Our 1996 Olds gets 25 MPG in town.

All THESE cars have Torco Oil in them and Baldwin Filters and NGK plugs.
