LandCruiser weekend etc

Julian, just one small note.
Mid/North Wales is a good idea, with no problem. I don't know all the
area really well, though appreciate that we do have some members on
the south and others with holiday properties there; but advise you
only plan routes with the close advice and co-operation of local
off-roaders, even LR owners ;o)
There are a lot of very large landowners up there who are still in
the dark ages regarding their attitude to 'the public'. The local
aristos and large landowners are not the same as those in the
Pennines, the Lakes or Northumberland who are more welcoming.
As an example I strongly advise that you steer clear of any land
owned by the large Bodnant estate which is both sides of the river
Conwy along the A470 (known locally as Lord Aberconwy's estate). Like
others, their landholding is not in a ring fence and they own other
land at higher altitude towards Snowdon. If they find off-roaders on
green lanes - despite their right to be there - their actions might
be considered extreme! FWIW
Cheers

Hi Jon,
Thanks Jon,
Fortunately Jon Wildsmith has a pretty good knowledge of the lanes
around there and via CRAG (http://www.crag-uk.org) have a good network
of local reps that we could draw upon.

Hello,
I would agree with Jon. Greenlaning in this country has now been
politicized to a point that makes the whole exercise not worth the
bother (investigating route with local ROW officers, negotiating with
landowners, getting a stick from the red socks and bobble hats, ect
... especially when a large number of vehicles is involved.
I remember the Anorac Club once held an offroading weekend at a place
in mid Wales called Kilgetty Farm in Pembrokeshire. There were no
facilities on the spot but maybe things have changed.
I am wondering if there might be interest in something even more
fascinating than Julian has proposed. Not just playing in a few
mudholes on a rainy weekend. How about a group trip to Tunisia or
Morocco for the real offroading in your landcruiser?

Hi Roman,
I would agree to a point. Fortunately we have some handy connections
with CRAG who are starting to build up a database of PRoWs that are
usable and by splitting into groups of no more than 5-6 vehicles we
shouldn't cause that much of a disruption - we may have to travel a bit,
but I get the impression that there are enough lanes around in Wales
that we wouldn't have to travel too far and should be able to avoid more
than one group using a particular lane.
Sounds interesting, do you have any contact details?
I am sure there would be. There are enough of you going down there off
your own back and also in other groups, it wouldn't be too difficult to
setup some sort of clearing system on the site where you can register
where you would like to go and roughly when and then see a list of who
else is heading that way around then.

OK, let's see how many people would consider going together for 10-14
days in late autumn/early winter time.
