4 were exported to Europe....:))
(for a show/demo in Barcelona/Spain, 1960, flown in by Toyota, sold
locally afterwards....and until '67 no further Cruisers in
Europa....1 of those was found & restored by a Dutchman-in-exile,
then offered to the Dutch Nationaal Automobiel Museum (now 'Louman
Collection', named after the founder in 1932, also the Dutch Toyota
distributor....worlds oldest *and* largest private-owned car
collection).
Apparently #2 of those 4 has also been retrieved, but not restored
yet.
Must be the largest local 'survival-rate' of any car model in
history, relatively speaking....:))
(without it being any special/unique model, back in those
days....although Spain was pretty poor back then....tourists driving
around in a Mercedes even in the late 70's were considered
excessively wealthy....not sure what status such an FJ25 had....'El
Loco', probably....:))
(they did have a decent amount of Land Rovers....;))

Oh btw, more global data: somewhere in the FAQ (or DGTLCB) it says
that the first exported Cruiser was to Pakistan, in 1957....and that,
presumably shortly after, most export went to Yemen and (I think)
Pakistan....but not all/many sources mention either fact, so I wonder
what the core source of the data is....probably not Japanese
archives, but various collections of old national documents/press
releases elsewhere (hence much more likely to show gaps &
contradictions).
Willem (who wished those damn Japanese (senior executives) would open
both their mouth and their archives, and start communicating with the
rest of the world (I have a similar problem in photo-context....try
getting hold of Kowa history....they made splendid medium format
optics back then, but today they rather die than admit they once made
stuff like that) Jan
Btw, does that J2-Mailinglist on Birfield.com work or not?
Archives were broken last week (but that applies to all (publicly!)
shown mailinglist ('!', because the LCML isn't even listed there))
(and I still wonder about the existence of a MiniTruck sister
list?!?)
