Hi Tomaz,
The 1HD-FT engine was de-tuned slightly off boost in order to try to reduce the emissions, as a result when compared to the 12valve engine it runs like a dog until the turbo boost builds up.
If you read the articles you will find that some cars will benefit greatly from the tweaks and others won't.
At the end of the day these engines can handle a lot of horse power, however when tweaking the fuelling you always need to be conscious of not over fuelling it, leading to higher head temps and sub sequential damage. Ideally you need to check the temps using an Exhaust Gas Temperature probe and guauge, however as long as it isn't spewing out loads of black smoke you should be reasonably safe.
I have tweaked a lot of pumps and find a massive difference in the state of tune of engines, even between ones of the same age and mileage. I had a lovely 1994 12 valve the other day that the owner was complaining was gutless and it was averaging 180miles to a tank and just through some minor tweaking we have got more power and it is returning around 280miles to a tank when towing a heavy trailer.
Some of the tweaks in the article can be applied to the 12valve engine as well. I have been slowly tweaking my own 12valve particularly with the aim of removing a flat spot after the turbo kicks in and it now picks up and pulls throughout the rev range and runs better than some intercooled 80s I have come across. Having said that I'm planning on intercooling it in the next couple of weeks which should be interesting :)
Regards
Julian

There was no noticeable increase in black smoke after the adjustment.

adjustment from some suspicious turbo mechanic ...with tree words:made in
Norway....

Yes mine with these AAI big turbo and intercooler kit makes some very
big smokes if I push hard on the mushroom with my right foot. So they
tells me unless you have all these the modern electronique injection
shit you will smoke more if you make power.
I leave you good bye with my big black cloud like the Lubo did. But I
leave you faster!
