Hello guys, my problem is a big oil leak from rhe transfer box output shaft seal which looks like a straight forward job to replace, is it?
Secondly, prior to this the gearbox oil level keeps going low and transfer box keeps getting too high? Why is this?
Could the gearbox seal be passing oil into the transfer box?
Thanks for all assistance / suggestions

Hi Ben,
Yes the oil seal between the gearbox and transfer case seal is not doing it's job. This is caused by the seal needs replacing or who ever worked on the gearbox before may have put the seal in the wrong way. One way to over come this problem is to buy a set up on eBay or at your 4x4 store. It's a hose withe the fittings that goes into each filling plug on the case a box. Top up your case and box add the line and what happens is any oil that go into the transfer case from your gearbox runs back into your bear box. No more problems. Oil presser in the gearbox also stuffs the seal with age.
Hope this helps
John

A cunning plan John. Fixing the leaking seal will be the first action. Both output shaft seals will be replaced. The next job at a later date funds permitting will be to remove the transfer box and look at the gearbox seal that you mentioned. I would like to repair that properly but keeping your bypass in mind if necessary. Now lets find some seals

Now have all the seals gaskets and o rings. Cant remove the tfr box whole as one bolt head is within the casing. Hence a bigger job than first thought. Decided to replace gearbox output shaft seal, both tfr box output shaft seals and all gaskets and the o ring for the tfr case seal on the shaft. Also noticed the front diff output seal weeping so thats on the list too. A big job but it all looks doable
