lights failing

I have a 97 land cruiser and my headlights high and low beam keep coming on and off. I can hear the relay under the steering collum chatter. I have replaced the relay but it has not fixed the problem. Any ideas would be much appreciated. Thanks

Voltage drop over the switch caused by too much resistance? This could cause the chattering of the relay.You could try to spray some contact cleaner into the switch.

Assuming the same as my 12v? The black relay in the box under the bonnet perhaps has burnt contacts, or worse the plug in the box has started to melt. Common problem with age and resistance I am afraid on the 80.

By coincidence I have just posted up a mod which takes the load off the original system, it also allows greater flexibility if you want to use more powerful bulbs, you can find it here somewhere around page 14/15 of http://forum.ih8mud.com/threads/my-lc-80-thread.365673/
