Hi Guys, what a great weekend, Thanks to all of you especially Chris for letting me ride shot gun and also to Tony and the scout group for the grub :text-bravo:It tugged on my heart strings to see all those cruisers and not having one of my own any more, but sh#t happens and maybe just maybe one day.............
Anyway here's a few pictures I took and I hope they appear ok on the thread as it's the first time I've used my iphone for posting pics !!!

Saturday morning after Tony's briefing I headed straight for the new extreme section! :icon-twisted:

IMG_4555.jpg

IMG_4556.jpg

IMG_4557.jpg

First impression was that it looked crazy, and that panel damage was almost inevitable.

IMG_4559.jpg

IMG_4560.jpg

IMG_4561.jpg

So I decided to go for it!

IMG_4562.jpg

IMG_4563.jpg

IMG_4564.jpg

IMG_4565.jpg

I managed to cross the 2 ditches without any waffles. Just let the lockers and 37"s pull me across.

IMG_4566.jpg

IMG_4567.jpg

IMG_4568.jpg

IMG_4569.jpg

Had to use waffles on the section with all the boulders.

IMG_4571.jpg

IMG_4572.jpg

IMG_4573.jpg

IMG_4574.jpg

IMG_4575.jpg

Used the highlift jack a fair bit to get waffles positioned under wheels.

IMG_4576.jpg

IMG_4577.jpg

IMG_4578.jpg

IMG_4580.jpg

IMG_4582.jpg

IMG_4583.jpg

IMG_4584.jpg

IMG_4585.jpg

IMG_4586.jpg

IMG_4587.jpg

IMG_4588.jpg

IMG_4589.jpg

Chris was next to have a go in his huge 80.

IMG_4590.jpg

IMG_4591.jpg

IMG_4592.jpg

IMG_4593.jpg

IMG_4594.jpg

IMG_4596.jpg

IMG_4597.jpg

IMG_4599.jpg

IMG_4600.jpg

IMG_4601.jpg

IMG_4602.jpg

Unfortunately he got a little bit hung up on some rocks.

IMG_4604.jpg

IMG_4605.jpg

So out with the winch.

IMG_4606.jpg

IMG_4607.jpg

IMG_4609.jpg

The boulder he tried winching off just got pulled forward.

IMG_4610.jpg

So we hooked the winch line to the back of my 70, and he was soon free from the rocks.

IMG_4612.jpg

IMG_4613.jpg

IMG_4615.jpg

IMG_4616.jpg

IMG_4617.jpg

IMG_4618.jpg

IMG_4619.jpg

Headed over the woods next for a play.

IMG_4620.jpg

IMG_4624.jpg

Stupidly i decided to try and drive through the biggest, muddiest hole i could find!

IMG_4636.jpg

IMG_4638.jpg

First i tried to winch myself out.

IMG_4639.jpg

But my winch packed up. :icon-cry:

IMG_4640.jpg

So Chris kindly offered to winch me out.

IMG_4643.jpg

IMG_4644.jpg

Because he was being dragged towards me, he hooked his front winch rope around a tree.
He started winching and snapped his winch rope that was anchoring him to the tree.

IMG_4646.jpg

Decided to dig some of the mud out from in front of the wheels.

IMG_4649.jpg

Steven turned up and also offered to help. So he anchored his truck to a tree and tried winching me out. But even with using a snatch block, he couldnt get my truck to move.

IMG_4650.jpg

So finally we anchored Chris's and Steven's trucks to trees, and they both winched with a snatch block, and finally got me out.

IMG_4652.jpg

IMG_4653.jpg

IMG_4656.jpg

IMG_4657.jpg

Once i was out i realised id got a flat tyre.

IMG_4658.jpg

So we tried blasting it back on the rim, as id broken the bead.

IMG_4659.jpg

Couldnt do it with it on the truck, so we took it off and did it.

IMG_4660.jpg

With the tyre back on I limped back to camp.

Being stuck in that muddy hole for over an hour with my engine running did a lot of damage. :icon-cry:

Winch solenoids now faulty.
1 blown front CV.
Electric rad seized solid and almost caught fire.
Alternator completely full of mud and sand, after stripping, cleaning and re-building it, it now seems to be over charging at times.
Radiator clogged full of mud and sand, and with no fan to keep it cool, truck starts over heating
above 40mph.
1 flat tyre.
drawers and interior full of mud and sand.

The chassis was full of sand afterwards as are all the doors.

Had i not driven into that hole, i would have gone looking for more punches as i still needed 12.
Might not have come 4th then. :?

Despite the state my truck is in, was still an awesome weekend!

Sunday morning after trying to fix my alternator and cleaning my rad out, I went and helped Trev drive Lil Blue across the rocks on the extreme section. :icon-biggrin:

Trev did an excellent job of driving and didnt sustain any damage!

Interesting that both the SWB 70 and SWB 90 both drove it without needing to use their winches.

Maybe SWB's are better.

A huge thankyou to TonyS,Ian and the rest of the crew to make this a fantastic weekend,it was really nice to see so many cruiser in one place, specially after attending the Adventure overland show and to see field after field of LR's, it was really depressing.
Thanks karl to let me ride shotgun through the extreme section,it was indeed an eye opener.
The food was very tasty i hope the scouts raised enough dosh to make it worth their while.
It was nice to meet new and old friends and put some more faces to names(or the other way around).Chad i'm glad you cleared the air it's either the name or the face i get all the time.
roll on the next one, can't wait.
ram

or a 12k winch pulling you
Not really, just one that works would have been enough.

In the end it was a single line 9.5 that got him out. Problem was the angle of pull, it was so steep that effectively we were trying to pull him through the bank. Not that he was actually embedded. But when I snapped my front rope, obviously I just started sliding back down the hill toward him.

Chris

So really, just like you said Chris, it's all down to the sharp angle that you were all trying to pull him up against. Gra.

Looks like it was an excellent weekend! some great photos - thanks for sharing, that boulder section looked pretty extreme. hope you get the 70 fixed up quickly Ben, that mud hole looks very nasty. I wish lincomb was a bit closer to Aberdeen!!!

All cleared away now, found 3 of the 4 punches, just need no8 now if anyone recalls.

Shall I try to get a mention in 4x4 magazine? Nigel, the editor has been here a few times now, so will possibly be able to get a part page.

So any awesome pics send to me at [email protected]. Only one or two though, full res.

Cheers,

Tony.

How do you work that out? :icon-confused:

You used your rear winch, and Steven used his winch with a snatch block.

Actually Ben you are wrong there. In fact, my winch was pulling you and Steve's which which wasn't really working very well (at all really) was stopping you going back in. When my front line snapped it was actually still pulling you. Neither of my winches ever stopped pulling. But once I lost the front anchor, clearly I started to reel myself back in toward you. What was happening was that I was pulling all the time and Steve's winch was taking up the slack, adding some pull but not much, once you were moving, it was me that actually pulled you up and out. Steve had a double line pull so his rope was only half the speed of mine. As you were in your cab, I am not sure how you'd know quite what was happening up top

No you are very welcome - I am sure I can afford a new winch rope. Maybe I just leave you in the next hole I find you in? Hmm? :icon-wink:

Chris

That's a great collection of pics and vids Steve, I love the bit of big Chris showing them just how to get up a muddy hill,
I enjoyed meeting some old and some new faces even though I was only there for the afternoon/evening, I can't wait to be back there with my proppa 80 (the red one) Thanks to Tony and team for all the organisation which made it another great meeting of Land Cruiser nutters. We had an excellent turn out this time, I can't remember when I last saw so many Land Cruisers together.
Thanks also to Ryan for the 'illuminating' demonstration of his LED lights.

The 60 has the unfortunate fact that the springs are under the axle and each time it tried it was ploughing trenches with its springs! Dont forget it is the grandad there!! With out a 60 there wouldnt be an 80!:icon-cool:

Absolutely right. But that aside you still did darn well getting as far as you did up that one. There is a very tricky section just on that bend which has stopped many before you. Remember I have a daft 80, so it's hardly a fair comparison. Great to see a couple of 60s this weekend. Not sure we've had any before - have we?

Chris

We have had (a?) 60 attend before, can't remember who it was though
