Quite a hard gearbox to find these days, almost all the lj 70's drive line are installed in Suzuki upgrades.
There's gearbox components for sale in Australia on ebay..
Another option is to adapt the 90 series r151f manual box but you have to swap the back case to fit the lj transfer.
Either way you have to rebuild the gearbox.. Unless you manage to find a replacement which could be in the same condition. It is what it is!

Tell me about it mate , although I think i have sourced an lj70 box but we’re not sure in what condition it’s in , beloved to be working, but won’t really know the score until it’s stripped , is the 90series box conversion a fairly straightforward mod ? As they seem to be a lot more available.

The gearbox's are the same internally, it's the output casing that's different which enables you to fit different style transfers on.
The gear shifter on the 90 is further back from the position of it on a 70 one but the transfer connecting spline is the same and appears to be the same length as on the 70 box. So swap the output casing and gear selector rods. A lot easier to do than stripping the box into bits etc.
I am in the same situation with my 70 it jumps out of 3 and 4th and it's a case of making up a gearbox before it makes too much damage.
I have some time later and will do some measurements to confirm it's possible etc.

I can and will get the current one reconditioned ,
Just wanted to have a box ready to go and Chuck in straight away , a little bit over zealous maybe but best case is il have another decent recon box to sit on or sell to someone else in need .
