Locking fob lost its code

On of my locking / alarm fobs has lost its code. I noticed somewhere (maybe in the manual?) That a fob battery change has to be done within 10mins or the fob loses its coding. This one sat for ages with a dead battery and now won't talk to the vehicle.
Is it possible to re-code them?

Press and hold both buttons at once. These fobs shouldn’t lose their coding but occasionally they do. This should fix it. It’s a different procedure to code a new fob

Not the same as mine but mine went out due to very slight corrosion on battery terminals in it so best to check I guess.
