Looking for a SWB 120. Are they really that rare?

120 swb to Amazon?, Wow. You will definitely have trouble convincing the Mrs now !!
Tell me about it. Just spoke to the dealer on this one. He said they have spent a lot of money repairing this but I have asked for Pics. Reg is T928 JVP. It is a Jam import but previous MOT's have mentioned very rusty underside. Is it possible to actually repair this or will they just be hiding it? Cheers

Ime, it will be repaired enough to get it through a MOT..

A bit of welding and a lot of wax oil.

Pics could tell a lot. If it is covered in fresh underseal, that tells you just that, it's undersealed.
It may well been repaired,- but to what standard, good or bodged, then hidden.
Jap imports tend to fare better over there, as they don't have our harsh winters/salt, but when was it imported, could be a long time ago,in which any rot might take hold, determining what repairs have been done underneath and elsewhere.
I know nothing of Amazons, but as with all vehicles of age or younger, you could expect some repairs.
As you give an indication the dealer has repaired/ spent a lot of money on it, it is unlikely there are bills/ receipts to back this up
Personally, I would take a vehicle that is honest in visual, rather than something that has been covered up.
See what the pictures tell you. J.M.H.O.

Horses for courses but personally i would prefer one of these

But finding one in good nick won't be easy .

Thanks again All. I'm determined to be in a land cruiser as I want something reliable and strong. I'm keeping an eye out everywhere I can. I think I may have persuaded her to go to LWB. So I'll keep looking. All pointers welcome! Also, I will post the pics oftheunderside of the amazon on her when I get them. Cheers

Hi All, Not the best pics but what do you think?

Nah somebody willing could probably repair it but with this in mind "Used to have a Range Rover and it has scarred her!" i get the feeling your not wanting that and when theres a visible need to repair you can be sure theres more to find hidden away under the cills and stuff .

Sad fact is when it comes to Cruisers newer is not better so with budget of 10 grand i have to suggest you could get a good 80 series for that . The mrs might object on the grounds that it doesn't have the modern look but rest assured she will be astonished and impressed by the compliments it gets from complete strangers in Tesco car park and the likes . Its universally recognized as THE 4x4 by anyone who knows something about cars and those who don't know about cars will say "no way is that 20 years old" It's solid , comfortable and right up there in the top 5 of the most reliable vehicles ever sold .

Thanks Shayne, I really like them. I'm going to keep looking. I am also interested in this one 85k miles LC3 2006. Again, No mention of corrosion on the MOT so asked for pics to be sent. At the risk of being annoying. Opinions on this would be appreciated.

Not annoying some spend more than a year looking for the right truck and drive laps of the country . That last one looks to me in time to save assuming you intend to have whatever you buy treated to some rust prevention (search the forum for Krown) though there are other options such as wax oil or Dinitrol .

But one mans trash is another mans treasure and mines only one opinion of i hope many others to follow .

Well what you see is what you get, nothing I can see has been covered up/bodged, which is a plus in my book, especially on a vehicle that age. That brings me to the next question, - what has the "lot of money" been spent on, full engine rebuild/replacement, or as already said just enough to get it through MOT.
A "lot of money" can mean different things to different people, especially dealers.
On previous Mots has there been fails or advisories giving an indication of what is worn or has been replaced for a pass?

Thanks Both. Traction man. This is a different car from the amazon. The is an 06 LC3 with 75k on it. Very tempted. Getting someone to go and look at it and see what its like. Any pointers for what to look at welcome!±

Good luck with your quest. This thread has taken some vehicular twists and turns from original post.

I'm guessing you haven't had much feedback on that last truck you posted because few can offer much on the thread title "swb 120" so perhaps if you start a new thread in the lounge titled "buying first cruiser advice" or something similar then more will read it and comment .
