Looking for an 80

Morning Chris,
Did you see the prepped one on the Hubb the other day?
Your best best is to just keep an eye on Autotrader - do a search on
Landcruiser with 4.2 as a key word.
Personally I prefer the Autos so would either keep an eye out for a
post '95 Jap import with diff locks or go for a late '94 12 valve and
spend some of the money saved on an intercooler ;-)
One word of warning, most owners/sellers don't have a clue if they have
diff locks or not - the best thing to do is ask if they have the rotary
diff lock switch down to the left of the steering wheel.
Also another point to note is that the jap Imports tend not to have the
3rd row of seats as standard.
If you spend a few days watching Autotrader, you will see that the
prices vary considerably - I would try to the cheapest one around
100,000 miles you can that is in OK nick and then spend the money saved
on 'baselining' it - getting all the axle seals, bearings, CVs, etc
replaced and give it a damn good service.
This is what we have done with Peter's 80 and despite some shocking
servicing in the past (no seals on brake calipers, lots of rusted and
then snapped bolts, etc) after all the new parts and labour it is has
worked out as a far better deal than buying a top notch dealer serviced
model for a few k more.
BTW - where abouts are you?
